I've been reading a lot about the Castle Doctrine and, that a state wouldn't allow it is completely and totally beyond me. This is
my home. If you are in it and I have not invited you, let alone if you aggressively enter it, I should have the right to do whatever needs to be done to defend it and everything in it (especially loved ones).
I've read a lot of instances where someone caught someone in their house, shot them, and then spent the next few years either in jail or trying to avoid going to jail. I just get the feeling that with some of these cases, the "powers that be" would actually expect you to help the intruder carry your stuff out to his car rather than fight to defend it. "Well, ok....I mean, so long as you don't move on me aggressively we're ok....you want a hand with that computer? It's a big rig - pretty heavy...I paid a shit-ton of money for it too. You'll love it."
I'm not saying that we should be able to just spew out rounds at the first hint of something being amiss (positive identification of target anyone?) but if I've determined you to be a threat and I act on that and you're not supposed to be in my home I shouldn't have to worry about the what-ifs if I shoot you. I should be more concerned about the what-ifs if I
don't shoot you.
