Why do some otherwise well-meaning progressives who support stringent regulations on banks, energy, and other industries oppose regulations on abortion clinics?

Such a position does NOT do the pro-choice movement any favors.

I think certain members of the Bush administration should be frog marched into prison along with this Kermit Gosnell sociopath.

It's an opinion piece and yes in some cases NARAL may look just like the NRA, lobbying to block any regulation of its industry. What Gosnell did was gross malpractice and a violation of criminal laws. It points out holes in Pennsylvania's administrative practices, but they are not the only state. In California the LA Times found that a number of registered nurses had been convicted in other states of felonies and still practiced in this state. The CA Board of Registered Nursing didn't do criminal records checks of existing licensees or check with other state nursing boards on disciplinary actions. Very quickly most of the CA Board members were replaced including the executive director and holes were patched.
