Let's try to get our S**t in one sock this year and see if we can't get ourselves organized.
We have enough interested citizens to start. We need to have a stated purpose. My thoughts are to do this step by step otherwise I don't believe we can get anywhere. My suggestion is 1) Organize for social gathers initially and see what talent we draw in then 2) Add more of the legal/ educational liberal representation aspects to the chapter. Mark hopes to have a presence that represents the ideas of the LGC in the long run.
For step Uno: Can we meet up as a group, say in February?, for lunch, brunch, and/or drinks in the N Texas area so we can all meet and brainstorm on "stated goals." I'm thinking something like: an open-minded environment to share thoughts, interests, and opinions regarding responsible gun ownership within society, taking advantage of our wide range of personal experiences, individual preferences, and inter-generational points of view. blah, blah, blah...."
Any thoughts on how to get to this first step? where & when?

Re: Texicans Organizing
3I'm in.
Saturdays are better for me.
The next Feb Big town show is on the weekend of 19th and 20th. Fort Worth also has a show in February (12-13), but I'd need a ride for that one.
Of course, the meet doesn't have to be while a show is in town.

Re: Texicans Organizing
5would a Political Action Committee work for this sorta thing? or would it simply be a club of some sort for social gatherings? I don't live in Texas but I like the idea and am still searching for something of this sort here in MN. I think it would be great to start a Liberal Gun Club that organizes shooting events, whether it be hunting trips or some time at a range. Workshops would also be a great way to introduce new members and/or those interested in seeing what the group is about - for example, you could have a workshop that promotes gun safety or workshops that teach hunting techniques, gun cleaning workshops, scope-mounting workshops, etc, etc.Simmer down wrote: We have enough interested citizens to start. 7It looks like this bunch, including me, want to lean heavily on fun and maybe even more fun, so that's the focus on fun. Its possible we could attract people more focused on other aspects of gun ownership as we go along.Carl_Spackler wrote: would a Political Action Committee work for this sorta thing? or would it simply be a club of some sort for social gatherings?
From each according to his ability, to each according to his need, eh comrades?.
