Verbally Attacked For Being A Gun Dealer & Not An NRA Member

1
Guy I work with came up to me talking about some upcoming NRA meeting and asked if I'm going.

Inform him I'm not an NRA member.

He insists that I have to be a member in order to be a gun dealer.

Inform him that it would be illegal for the government to require you to be a member of a private partizan political group in order to get a federal license.

Rants and raves that I have no business being a gun dealer if I don't support the 2nd Amendment

?!?!?!?! I'M A GUN DEALER!!!! HOW IS THAT NOT SUPPORTING THE 2ND AMENDMENT!?!?!

I would attribute his response to selective hearing and stupidity

Sorry you have to deal with this kind of stupid thinking. Unfortunately, that's how people behave when they approach the world in terms of absolutes. If pushed to explain, I'm pretty sure he'd say that you are pretending to support the 2nd amendment but really you are just an anti who's fooling himself, etc, etc. I've seen this kind of "logic" in internet forums on the far right of the political spectrum when some people express the opinion that there may be reasonable restrictions about what people could carry in such and such circumstance. (No, no: if you are truly supporting the 2nd then you should be in favor of everybody (including felons and drooling idiots) carrying any weapon (bazookas FTW!) anywhere.)

(BTW, your business got a web site???)

I'm a life member of GOA, an organization that thinks the NRA is composed of a bunch of sell-outs.

Now THAT'S a cult!!

That's the most disheartening thing about this guy is that he's almost as atheistic as me, yet he's still a screaming right winger. At least he's not a teabagger, but he is most definitely an NRA "cultist".

Speaking of heathens, I've found a good beer Old Heathen Imperial Stout. Kinda reminiscent of Guiness.

Guinness is pure velvet and this Russian Imperial Stout sounds the same. The problem with most craft beers is that they're only available regionally, not nationally. When I retire I wouldn't mind driving around visiting and sampling the feast of locally made brews all devised by (I'm convinced) "liberal" brewmasters.

Good News! I'm in Florida, the beer is from Pennsylvania, I bought it at my local co-op and it's available on line.

Cheers!

That sucks. Do you have any choice in the matter? Like maybe not working with him anymore?
Nah, I was pissed about it yesterday, I'm over it, but I'm actually his boss so he's been a little quiet today and very polite. He knows he crossed the line.
To be honest, I work with far worse repugs, he's an 65 year old ex Navy fudd and VERY NRA brainwashed, but other than that he's actually semi-reasonable about most things.

Yeah, I wouldn't say "fuck that guy". Give him a moth or so to wrap his head around the fact that you ARE A DEALER, and I'll bet he sees at least a little more light. Sometimes it just takes a while for people to work through their own cognitive dissonance. He may even buy something.
