Entering into major storms/hurricane season preps.

While I keep trying to make my home increasingly secure when it comes to stuff like major storms, extended power outages, possible hurricanes and flooding the possibility that I might be required to evacuate is still a possibility.

During the last few seasonal issues the cell service was still available so I started checking on apps that might become useful in an evacuation or stuck in place emergency.

Some that I installed and use.

Google maps. Absolutely essential but with a hard copy backup. Also a Garmin in the car.
The FEMA emergency app. Alerts and suggestions.
GasBuddy. To locate nearby gas stations that actually have gas. Hit and miss coverage but well worth a shot if on the road and out of your stomping grounds.

I also selected a few possible destinations in advance where I might head based on what threat was the issue and stored routing information in my Google Maps app and also on the Garmin in the car.

What other apps should be considered?
To be vintage it must be older than me!
The next gun I buy will be the next to last gun I ever buy. PROMISE!

Don't laugh, but during our fires of the last several years, I've found twitter to be a great way to get information. It's the only thing I use it for.

Also, our local politicos are pretty good at posting updates to their Facebook sites.

And then there's Scanner Radio Pro that is sometimes useful.

During the Tubbs fire, a lot of the burned area, the only source of information was emergency responders driving down roads bullhorning people to GTFO, all power and cell service was down. Know your evacuation routes, have a kit ready and get out before you have to.
