Multi-modal Wednesday fun

Yesterday afternoon I hit the range in Issaquah for 2.5 hours. Perfect weather: just warm enough for shorts without it seeming like an affectation, sunny and enough breeze to carry away the fumes without ruffling the targets. I only took two guns: Dan Wesson Pointman 9 (original iron sights) and Ruger MkII with Holosun sight. I already logged one rimfire score for the current match, so I shot two round with the Ruger and three with the 1911.

Or rather, I started three with the 1911. I abandoned the second round because I had done rather poorly in slow fire, and didn't want to waste time and ammo finishing the timed and rapid strings. Big mistake, because my slow fire score in the first round was also lame, and in the third round I did a little better in slow fire but shanked THREE shots outside the scoring rings in timed fire, which is usually where I score best. So, my centerfire scores should be no threat to anyone.

Still, a nice afternoon. I improved my rimfire score by 10 points over the round in February (which was shot with iron sights on a different MkII) and at least a few targets here and there were better than my usual with both guns, so I didn't feel like complete garbage despite the screw-ups. Also nice that the pistol range was deserted most of the time and only a couple of people were on the rifle range. Cease-fires for target changes went very quickly.

Then I locked the guns in the storage compartment in the back of my station wagon and drove to the Middle Fork of the Snoqualmie River to meet up with four other guys and gals for some goofing off on Class II to Class III whitewater from 6 to 8 PM. Got a few good surfs and didn't embarrass myself by swimming, so it was a fine day of multi-modal recreation!

Well spoken!
This is my new goal in life. To go shooting in this weather as often as possible.
