My considered and toned down response:

Fuck you NYT writer guys. Adding the terrorist watch list to the NICS check is ridiculous. The terrorist watch list is a sick joke of cosmic proportions. If you're on the terrorist watch list, what can you do to get off of it? If you're actually suspected of BEING a terrorist, they make sure you're unimpeded so no one 'spooks' you if you fail a check somewhere.

What a useless crock of shit (the watch list.)

This has been a toned down response from KV. Have a good day!

Yes, exactly. Same thing goes for the "No Fly List". No crime has to be committed nor charges made for one to appear on these unconstitutional lists.

That said, I am all for forcing the states to supply the names of those people legitimately disqualified from purchasing guns to the NICS system. There is no question that the current system is flawed, but I feel that this should be addressed prior to new restrictive legislation being passed as a knee jerk reaction to compensate for the afore mentioned flawed system.

If not all of the spark plugs in the engine of your car are working, no matter how you modify the rest of the car, it will never run right, if at all.

I have no problem with this.

I agree. Fix the list and how people can get on AND off the list before adding to the damned list. I don't want terrorists to have easy access to guns either, but I am against throwing a bunch of people on a list prior to due process of law. Are we a nation of law or a nation that reacts with knee jerk and senseless laws.

It appears there really are more crazy people in Texas than Jersey...go figure!?

I see this a little differently. The NYTimes has shifted focus from guns to people, which seems a positive development to me. Normally the Times would be railing at the evil handgun ala Bill Maher ( whom I happen to respect, though on this point disagree kinda sorta) but instead has brought attention to the manner and method employed to keep guns out the hands of fools and idiots.

I'm good with that.
