Re: How many have been vaccinated?
151Glad to hear so many here have been able to get the vaccine. I know we are a small, very unscientific sample, but I'll take it as a little good news.

Congrats!
i'll be interested to hear about any side effects of the pfizer
The latest study is now saying that in real life the first shots of both Pfizer and Moderna protect up to 80%, rather than 50-55% and that the 2nd shot brings it up to 90% rather than 94% and 95%, not that it matters much.Mason wrote: Tue Mar 30, 2021 9:51 am I had no side effects except a slightly sore arm. My next shot is Pfriday April 16. It’s good to have neighbors who volunteer. There were 40 doses left after a clinic. I had COVID vax for happy hour!
With which vaccine? Those of us living alone would like to know!YankeeTarheel wrote: Tue Mar 30, 2021 10:03 am Fever is rare (one friend, an old colleague, had fever and was even delirious for 36 hours--but after that she was just fine.)

Generally, plan to spend the day AFTER the 2nd shot of either feeling like shit--aches and pains, possibly a bit nauseated, Tired. The day after that you should be 100%. Fever is rare (one friend, an old colleague, had fever and was even delirious for 36 hours--but after that she was just fine.)
https://www.cdc.gov/media/releases/2021 ... cines.htmlThe study looked at the effectiveness of Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna mRNA vaccines in preventing SARS-CoV-2 infections among 3,950 study participants in six states over a 13-week period from December 14, 2020 to March 13, 2021.
Results showed that following the second dose of vaccine (the recommended number of doses), risk of infection was reduced by 90 percent two or more weeks after vaccination. Following a single dose of either vaccine, the participants’ risk of infection with SARS-CoV-2 was reduced by 80 percent two or more weeks after vaccination.
Thanks for the additional reference to compensate for my laziness!highdesert wrote: Tue Mar 30, 2021 11:13 amYankeeTarheel wrote: Tue Mar 30, 2021 10:03 amThe latest study is now saying that in real life the first shots of both Pfizer and Moderna protect up to 80%, rather than 50-55% and that the 2nd shot brings it up to 90% rather than 94% and 95%, not that it matters much.Mason wrote: Tue Mar 30, 2021 9:51 am I had no side effects except a slightly sore arm. That was a study conducted by CDC among health workers.https://www.cdc.gov/media/releases/2021 ... cines.htmlThe study looked at the effectiveness of Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna mRNA vaccines in preventing SARS-CoV-2 infections among 3,950 study participants in six states over a 13-week period from December 14, 2020 to March 13, 2021.

Pfizer and Moderna went through Phase 3 trials before the new variants were discovered, hopefully some participants in this study encountered the variants it's not mentioned. Oxford/AstraZeneca and Novavax vaccines have encountered the variants in field studies.
Pretty sure she got Moderna. But she has had a lot of serious systemic health issues over the last 15 or more years, starting with fibromyalgia. She's the only person I know who has had anywhere NEAR such a severe reaction. Fever is almost an oddity.sig230 wrote: Tue Mar 30, 2021 10:19 amWith which vaccine? that sounds unpleasant.wings wrote: Wed Mar 31, 2021 8:58 am I am not looking forward to my immune system going toe-to-toe with a third encounter
From what I've read, people who have had Covid frequently DO tend to have more severe reactions to the vaccines--if they have a reaction at all. It's a wild-ass-guess, but I'll bet the 2nd shot doesn't give you nearly as severe a reaction since you've had this reaction to the 1st shot. You're only the 2nd person I know of to have a fever and a temporary diminished mental capacity (my friend DID have delirium that passed).wings wrote: Wed Mar 31, 2021 8:58 am I had a worse fever from shot 1 Moderna than I did from Covid. Maxed out at 102 on day 2. Delirium isn't how I'd describe the first night after the shot, but I lost all sense of time. That was after the nausea, before the cough and shortness of breath. It all got better, but I am not looking forward to my immune system going toe-to-toe with a third encounter with a spike protein.

Glad my wife and daughter are now 1 week into does 1. I'll try for a spare when I take my daughter for dose 2 on the 13th. Otherwise, it'll be trying to get an appointment with the remaining half of California's population on the 15th. Fun!
