For me there were few side-effects from the Pfizer and honestly not sure anything I experienced were related to the Pfizer as opposed to weather changes and old age.

There was less pain at injection site than the Pneumonia shot. I was exhausted for the next few days but then I was also feeling a classic spring cold symptoms.

The latest study is now saying that in real life the first shots of both Pfizer and Moderna protect up to 80%, rather than 50-55% and that the 2nd shot brings it up to 90% rather than 94% and 95%, not that it matters much.

Generally, plan to spend the day AFTER the 2nd shot of either feeling like shit--aches and pains, possibly a bit nauseated, Tired. The day after that you should be 100%. Fever is rare (one friend, an old colleague, had fever and was even delirious for 36 hours--but after that she was just fine.)

That was a study conducted by CDC among health workers.
The study looked at the effectiveness of Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna mRNA vaccines in preventing SARS-CoV-2 infections among 3,950 study participants in six states over a 13-week period from December 14, 2020 to March 13, 2021.

Results showed that following the second dose of vaccine (the recommended number of doses), risk of infection was reduced by 90 percent two or more weeks after vaccination. Following a single dose of either vaccine, the participants’ risk of infection with SARS-CoV-2 was reduced by 80 percent two or more weeks after vaccination.

Pfizer and Moderna went through Phase 3 trials before the new variants were discovered, hopefully some participants in this study encountered the variants it's not mentioned. Oxford/AstraZeneca and Novavax vaccines have encountered the variants in field studies.

With which vaccine? Those of us living alone would like to know!
Pretty sure she got Moderna. But she has had a lot of serious systemic health issues over the last 15 or more years, starting with fibromyalgia. She's the only person I know who has had anywhere NEAR such a severe reaction. Fever is almost an oddity.

But since both vaccines are mRNA vaccines, reactions are equally likely from either. I wouldn't worry about that. Before the first shot, make sure you're reasonably well-fed and definitely well-hydrated. If you skipped breakfast and lunch, and are mildly dehydrated, you can get a pseudo allergic reaction. I did. I got light-headed and my other hand (left arm shot) started itching. The doctor who checked me over and asked me about that said it's REALLY common to have that reaction to being hungry and dehydrated.

I had a worse fever from shot 1 Moderna than I did from Covid. Maxed out at 102 on day 2. Delirium isn't how I'd describe the first night after the shot, but I lost all sense of time. That was after the nausea, before the cough and shortness of breath. It all got better, but I am not looking forward to my immune system going toe-to-toe with a third encounter with a spike protein.

From what I've read, people who have had Covid frequently DO tend to have more severe reactions to the vaccines--if they have a reaction at all. It's a wild-ass-guess, but I'll bet the 2nd shot doesn't give you nearly as severe a reaction since you've had this reaction to the 1st shot. You're only the 2nd person I know of to have a fever and a temporary diminished mental capacity (my friend DID have delirium that passed).

The good news is that contrary to original studies, the new in-real-life studies show that the 1st shot of Moderna and Pfizer give 80% immunity--that's higher than the J&J shot.

Eagerly awaiting April 15th when I can legit wait in line for the opportunity to find an open appointment. Glad my wife and daughter are now 1 week into does 1. I'll try for a spare when I take my daughter for dose 2 on the 13th. Otherwise, it'll be trying to get an appointment with the remaining half of California's population on the 15th. Fun!

Can you book ahead online at any of sites? Otherwise it's 12:01 am on 4/15 to grab a slot.

OptumServe, I explored at one time, but they only book both 1st and 2nd dose appmts at the same time and I only needed dose #2.

Got call late last night from Cotulla to confirm visit today for 2nd Pfizer. Arrived on site 2 hrs. ahead of scheduled noon appt. time, but went on thru. Wasn't much of a crowd. Felt nothing when shot and 4 hours later, still nada. Been up since 3:30 AM, so long trip and hours, feel tired. Had chicken fried steak w/fries and white gravy on way home - comfort food. SIL and I shopped for CFS in small towns between Cotulla & SATX to no avail. Had to settle on small steakhouse south of downtown SATX. Already made todays report to V-Safe - nada problemo. Hope same tomorrow. Glad this vaccine shit in rearview mirror for time being. Texas and Trump really made this a unnecessary mess.
