Good article. I've been ranting about this kind of stuff for a while, but I call it the abdication of reason. (I've just googled "abdication of reason" and found it used from time to time in the press. I thought it just occurred to me one day out of nowhere but maybe I heard it from the press, tucked it into the subconscious and then when it later resurfaced I thought it was novel. Oh well.... )

Maybe the war on logic is just one manifestation of a more general phenomenon which could be termed the abdication of reason.

Paul Krugman is a moron. The only decent thing he ever wrote was on international trade. Bleh. Apologist for corporatist funny-money.

Maybe you have read the article, maybe you have not. Either way, your choice of calling him names instead of addressing his point is a great example of what abdicating reason looks like.

It is quite possible to disagree most vehemently with what someone says in general while finding that in some particular instance, the person has a point. Krugman here is pointing out a rhetorical strategy of the GOP, one which I've seen used in other contexts.

Nobels are merely a construct of the misogynistic corporatist UN controlled system of repression and inasmuch have no meaning.

"...the modern G.O.P. has been taken over by an ideology in which the suffering of the unfortunate isn't a proper concern of government, and alleviating that suffering at taxpayer expense is immoral, never mind how little it costs..."

I don't think the cost or savings for taxpayers even plays into the equation. I'm reminded of W. Bush's response that the uninsured already have coverage--they can just go to the ER, nevermind that ERs eating the cost of seeing the uninsured is one of the major problems in our current "system." I think it all comes down to Krugman's first phrase "the [fill in the blank] of the unfortunate isn't a proper concern of government."

Ok, I didn't get it so I looked it up at the 'online slang dictionary' :
a person who smuggles undocumented aliens across the Mexico-US border into the United States, usually for a fee.
I still don't get it.

Typical Republican 'fuzzy logic'. Good article thanks Mark.

Typical hateful Libertarian diatribe with no logical rebuttal.

I think I showed a lot of self control I smelled a troll right off the bat looking at her profile. Figured her to be either a 15 year old playing games or some guy playing mind games. But if she was legit you guys drove her away and not me and I was looking so forward to seeing some pictures posted.
