Re: What are you paying per round at the moment
77I'm not paying anything. Either I can't find ammunition or else it is more expensive than I am willing to pay. My handguns are now paperweights.

Re: What are you paying per round at the moment
78I have been seeing it in waves. Since last week shelves are empty, but I am seeing prices online come down in 9mm and 22lr. But they only last for a minute and then they are gobbled up. I really don't see supply looking anything close to normal until 2022. Last summer everyone was saying summer of 2021, I just don't see that as even remotely possible based on 1) number of new shooters willing to pay premiums and 2) continued lack of supply.
Re: What are you paying per round at the moment
79Last I paid for 9mm the”premium” was around .60/rd...about a month ago. Believe it or not it was cheaper than any FMJ I could find. The .60 was a steal at the price and a right time and place type of a deal.
Most every place I look there is no 9/357/38 pistol ammo to be had. Felt lucky picking up a box of 3030 for hunting for $23!!! Never thought I would see hunting ammo disappear like this.

81Any .357 Sig shooters here? Need ammo? DM me.
Edit: inherited some ammo from my father-in-laws estate. I have no desire to acquire a shooter in this caliber.

Re: What are you paying per round at the moment
82I found S&B 45 ACP 230 gr FMJ at Brownells for ~55 cents/round. Last week I found Federal 357 mag 158 gr JSP for ~75 cents/round. I think that's what passes for good prices right now. I bought a couple of each.
Re: What are you paying per round at the moment
83I think so. Going rate for 230 gr. Ball was .32 pr. In the “before times.” I got some for .40 pr right before Christmas, but it was a 5 box limit and a steal at cabalas.cooper wrote:I found S&B 45 ACP 230 gr FMJ at Brownells for ~55 cents/round. Even though I reload .45 ACP - I don’t have as much brass as I do for .38/.357 (probably about 5k) so I do pick up factory ammo when it’s reasonable. I don’t think I’ve bought factory .357 since I found some at a garage sale cheap in 2014. Definitely a reloader caliber.
I shudder to think of all the .45 ACP brass I just swept up into the range brass bin before I was a reloader & I was competing with a Glock 21.
Lesson learned - Now I save all my brass - even for calibers I don’t reload (yet). I have some .45 colt brass and bullets coming in the mail and I don’t even own one - but I’m sure I will in the next few years. I’m sure many would consider that ass-backwards. But I won’t buy a firearm unless I know I can shoot it.

Re: What are you paying per round at the moment
84outside of a box of 357 sig ammo I bought when I swapped barrels in my p226 I haven't purchased any ammo since the start of the pandemic. mainly because my LGS hasn't been able to get any in and I refuse to pay the shipping they want for ammo.
Re: What are you paying per round at the moment
85Bass pro and Cabela’s had 9 mm in stock online this morning at $.32 around, so I picked up 500 rounds. That was the lowest price I’ve seen 9 mm in a year and a half
Re: What are you paying per round at the moment
86Cabelas had a 200 round box of Herter's 226 for just over $100 today.
I dont shoot 226, but there was a pretty big pile of these.

87Cabela's near me sometimes has Herter's 9mm 115gr FMJ for thirty cents a round.keenanmj85 wrote: Wed Apr 28, 2021 6:41 pm Bass pro and Cabela’s had 9 mm in stock online this morning at $.32 around, so I picked up 500 rounds. That was the lowest price I’ve seen 9 mm in a year and a half
Sometimes.
And when they do, they have a five-box limit (regardless of how many rounds in a box--I have bought 150-round boxes of 5.56, and seen 20-round boxes of JHP), unless you have a Cabela's credit card.
I found some Federal there at thirty-eight cents a round a couple days ago.
Eventually I'll figure out this signature thing and decide what I want to put here.
Re: What are you paying per round at the moment
88Saw Barnaul in .45 ACP advertised at pre-panic prices for my LGC. $20/50. Not willing to pay Russian armories while Putin remains in power. Metering my stocks for a long shortage. Could restock, but everything is nuts and finances aren't great. Stimmy money helps, but there are higher priorities.
Re: What are you paying per round at the moment
89Hola everyone!
I have not bought much ammo over the last couple years as I stocked up during the beginnings of Orange man. However I did buy a couple boxes of 30-30 recently @ $40 bucks a box. Very difficult to find. I only did that because I bought a Win model 94 Trapper (circa '82) safe queen. I figured I better have some new ammo for it. The lady had two boxes of 40 year old ammo she gave me for 5 bucks a box. That may be collector grade.
Most all the ammo is gone last I looked locally at the biggest gun store in town cept for odd ball ammo. My Ace hardware sells ammo. I was surprised to see six boxes of .303 brit. Still one box limit. Seeing's I also just lucked out into getting a Lee-Enfield No. 5 Jungle carbine I was happy to see that and paid took it in the shorts yet again. That came with some old milsurp ammo but those look pretty good and clean.

90Visited a local big-box today. The only box on the shelf for handgun ammo was a box of .41 Colt. Not magnum, Colt. The box was not in good shape.
Re: What are you paying per round at the moment
91I bumped into my local small biz ammo guy on an early morning walk. He said he could make me 25 rounds of copper .45LC if I want to carry in the woods. FYI, California bans lead ammo for hunting, even if it's bear protection or what ever. So I ordered some--good to have and not need. Then I casually asked how much for a box of fifty .45acp just so I would know how to gauge my reloading. $25. Ordered a box because I'm lazy.

Re: What are you paying per round at the moment
92My local stores are starting to have 9mm in stock for 0.64/rd with one box limit per day. It’s been nice to always be able to pick up a box when I stop in. One store has even had S&B 9mm for 0.44/round.
On the other hand, I found .45 at one shop and when I got home discovered that 6 rds were missing from the box. Kind of ticked off but the upshot is, I won’t patronize that business in the future.

Re: What are you paying per round at the moment
93Even online prices for 9mm Luger are coming down a little bit. I periodically check AmmoSeek and WikiArms for pricing, and note that steel case stuff is hovering in the fifty-to-fifty-five-cents-a-round range, after months at sixty-five cents or more.
I have enough that I'm not spending more than thirty-eight cents a round for 115fr FMJ. I don't have a personal threshold set right now for JHP, but the last I bought was 135gr at about ninety cents a round. I think I have enough to hold me over for a few days...

Re: What are you paying per round at the moment
94The Ace Hardware store actually got in some Underwood Xtreme Penetrator ammo in 45 acp and 9mm. $40 and $26 for 20 rnd box.
I was looking at it and overheard a discussion between a salesman and some old guy wearing a Trump cap. Trumper was asking what Penetrator bullet meant. Old sales guy says "the shape of the bullet makes it tumble when it enters a target. Just like the M16 round did in Vietnam". Hehehe

Re: What are you paying per round at the moment
95Went to a local “chain” of firearms/outdoors stores in Ohio (vances) & ammo was available- albeit at high prices. Pallets of common calibers, 9mm, .45 ACP, 5.56. The availability make me think it’s about to drop in the near future - at least to $20/box for 9mm.
.60 cpr for 9mm is still too rich for my blood - (the “sale” price of 29.99 for blazer brass - which used to go for 8.99 pre-Covid - GTFO)
however - I was able to pick up some win 231 & H-110 at $35/lb - and I don’t see that price going down anytime soon.
Interestingly enough - still no 12 or 20 gauge shot shells available.

Re: What are you paying per round at the moment
96Yeah, Vance really hiked prices this winter. I was pleasantly surprised that they didn't through the summer. They've been very progressive about enforcing face masks and social distancing for a sports and outdoors chain in Ohio. Chatted with one of the owners last year, said they were absolutely mobbed when the first lockdown hit. Other stores in the Columbus area took the opportunity to jack prices up immediately, but they didn't. I like 'em.

98I’ve yet to find primers or powder. Agree roll your own. Finding components is not easy and if one still has ammo paying 10 to 20 times the previous normal price is not enticing. To top it off, once you click on an item it says “temporarily unavailable”. Good times. I was preoccupied with trying to stay employed and buying a computer to give myself a half year more of employment last year and totally missed getting components. 99I found powder yesterday. What I can’t find are niche things like resizing dies, crimp dies ... and of course primers. I’m trying to get set up to cast .45 colt Becuase the bullets are so slow arriving.sikacz wrote:I’ve yet to find primers or powder. Agree roll your own. Re: What are you paying per round at the moment
100Vance briefly had Federal American Eagle JSPs in .45 Colt down your way. Maybe a month ago? It was $80/50, but the first time they had .45 Colt in stock since July. I've been sitting on my last box since then, just shooting ACP in the meantime. Saw the shortage coming, tried to be community minded and not sweep the shelves last spring, but I might've broken that rule with ACP by the time August rolled along. Still, thought it'd be better by now.
