I’d love to be able to find 9mm . . . Or .38 or .357
I just received a back order for 100 .38 range rounds I ordered online in December
Gonna be a few and far between year getting in good practice.

I worry that wheel guns will be the last to get ammo made during the ammo-economy recovery. Everyone wants 9mm and it will get back to normal first, I bet.

If we can get cheap 9mm back, I can wait for 357.

Yeah. I just got my first 9mm a couple weeks ago. Haven’t even taken it for a spin yet, though I’ve been familiarizing myself with it unloaded. I’ve got a box of 50 fmj that I’m itching to take to the range next time to get a feel for the recoil, aim etc.

You can get .357 or .38 from choice ammunition up in Montana on back order. It’s relatively cheap but quality hand loaded range ammo. They specialize in cowboy rounds.
Takes a couple of months to get it though.
Buffalo Bore has .38 +p and .357 too. Those are very hot rounds and more on the pricey side- rather not spend the $ just to poke holes in paper.

Hell, No! I never played and was broken of ANY desire to go anywhere NEAR a golf course after working for several weeks as a caddy during the summer in HS!

We did a lot of cruising until 10 years ago, and we'd pull into some Hawaiian island, or Bora Bora in French Polynesia, and the addicts would be in Paradise and clamoring to...go play golf.

Just last Wednesday I was picking up my 2nd wheel gun and the LGS handling the FFL xfer were willing and able to sell me a box of .357 mag and one of .38 special, 50 rounds each. The revolver I got shoots both and 9mm. My other revolver, a Ruger 1771 (7 round version of the GP100) shoots only the .357 and .38. I recently bought 1K of 9mm off GunBroker, so I've got plenty if I ever get back to a range again.

Is it the Taurus 692? I was looking into one of those.
I figured it would be better for me to have a dedicated 9mm to just get familiar with a semi auto.
I’m new to all of this.
But it sounds like you’ve got lots of ammo for the zombie apocalypse. I’m jealous.

Yeah, it's the 692. I have a different take: The lieutenant who shot that invader at the Capitol was in a high stress situation. There were literally barbarians at the gate, trying to kill Senators and their staff. Yet he fired one precise shot, one shot, killing that horrid woman, and stopping that particular invasion. How many thousands of rounds did he fire on the range? How many simulations did he run through? How much did he train so that at that crucial moment, when he needed to be perfect, he fired one perfect shot?

It does make me wonder now, YT, do they have odd restrictions on ammo there?

I know that some states banned JHP and some require FFL or ammo license to purchase ammo. Does any state restrict the amount you can own or shoot each year or something strange like that?

Not that I know of. I'm guessing they are simply rationing out scarce ammo. The only restrictions I know of in NJ is that you must have your FPID, and certain kinds of ammo are totally illegal (armor piercing) and other, HD rounds, can only be kept and used at home. I've bought ammo online without a problem.

Locally, the only place I know of that has a reliable supply of ammo in stock wants crazy high prices (9mm @ $1/rd) for reloads packaged in their own rebranded boxes, haha. This is at a shooting range though, so it’s priced more for their rental business than it is for the general public. There are LGS that will sell boxes at “normal” prices as they get them in but the only way your getting some of those is knowing the right people, dumb luck or obsessive stalking, haha. I scrounged up enough 9mm to hopefully ride out the shortage and get some range time in to practice. Ive had no luck at all finding .357/.38, at any price, locally.

I have not been able to verify this claim, so don’t listen to some asshole on the internet haha, but my course instructor on Tuesday said it’s “now”, allegedly, illegal to have ammo shipped to your home in NJ. This was news to the whole class, we gasped, haha. It’s concerning because this guy also teaches a NJ gun law course with a notorious lawyer in the state, and doesn’t seem like the type to spread rumors. I also don’t want to spread any rumors! I could not confirm this anywhere online, BUT....

Coincidentally, I had placed a small order for some 357 mag this week with the same online vendor I used successfully like 2 months ago. The order status was changed two days later to “ON HOLD STATE”. A robot answers their phone and no reply back to my email. Their state restrictions page still says NJ residents just need to provide a copy of their FID to purchase handgun ammunition, per NJ law.

For hollow points, the instructor advised us to purchase polymer filled hollow points (such as Hornaday Critical Defense) if we want to keep defensive rounds in the home since the state doesn’t classify them as “hollow”. HP are not illegal here but, as YT mentioned, they have more restrictions on them than non-HP and it’s better stay as far away from these grey areas as possible if you ever end up in court.

Re: What are you paying per round at the moment

Most of my local sources are at the dollar-a-bullet level for 115gr FMJ 9mm (the only pistol ammo I'm watching closely right now--haven't been owning long enough that I want to add complexity to my inventory by buying another caliber other than the rifle ammo). That is, if they have any. JHP is between $1.60-2.00 per bullet.

I did score a couple boxes of Herter's at Cabela's the other day at thirty cents a round, which seemed like someone either mis-priced it or things might be improving somewhere. Then I looked at my last online purchase sites and saw eighty-cents-per-bullet pricing on 115gr FMJ, and I'm pretty sure someone mispriced that case of bullets.
Eventually I'll figure out this signature thing and decide what I want to put here.

My LGS is finally back to advertising prices online. You have to click on each box to see what it'll cost you, but that's still better than last week.

The same .45 ACP Federal Champion 230g FMJ that cost me less than $20/box in August is currently the cheapest you can buy at $39.99, 0.80/rd. Blazer Brass and Winchester white box is going for a dollar a round for the same. Defensive rounds are still hovering in the usual $1.75 range. Seems like demand is being driven by shooters, not people prepping for war. Unless our III% boiz are planning to follow international law for military conflict and fight with FMJ?

They aren't stocking .45 Colt yet, but prices have been adjusted in anticipation. I'd found S&B JHPs were both the cheapest stuff available in the caliber and offered good flexibility for target shooting or defensive use last year. It used to run what the Champion FMJs are now, but when it comes back I'm looking at over a dollar a round. The Federal American Eagle JSPs that ran 0.94/rd last year are now priced $69.99/box, $1.40/rd. So I'll be shooting ACP for a while.

Yeah yeah reloading supplies aren't really an option right now either. The time to get into that isn't the middle of a panic.

The only .22LR they're advertising is a quarter a round.

Re: What are you paying per round at the moment

After *MONTHS* of seeing 9mm147gr JHP at $1.50+/round, I scored a couple hundred rounds at $1.38/round landed (which includes tax and shipping).

Not a major win, but I can now justify doing some test-firing drills with JHP stuff to make sure the guns will "run" with 147gr JHP (not that I'm expecting any problems, mind you...).
Eventually I'll figure out this signature thing and decide what I want to put here.
