Arizona is looking great! Eleven more inches of snow expected on the mountain ranges surrounding Tucson.

A new storm is blowing in today and residents and visitors in the San Bernardino Mountain resorts are already panicking. They've had 5-6 feet of snow which is a lot more than they've had in recent years. I assume a lot of them are visitors who didn't anticipate all the snow so didn't buy a lot of groceries, they include groups of K-12 Irvine students and University of California, Irvine students..

The researchers also highlighted the data on reservoirs. While reservoirs account for only 5 percent of the volume, and 10 percent of the surface area, of all lakes, they contribute 16 percent of the evaporative loss. Additionally, while evaporation is increasing from lakes overall at a rate of 2.1 percent per decade, the rate of evaporation from reservoirs is increasing at a rate of 5.4 percent per decade.

“From a global perspective,” Zhao said, “the total reservoir evaporation can be larger than the combined use of domestic and industrial water,” not including agriculture, the largest user of water. “This suggests that reservoir evaporation is an indispensable factor in water management, especially in times of drought and global warming.”

We’ve had nice weather in Houston! On the crappy front I injured my shoulder, fell 3 weeks ago, finally had a MRI today. Doctor called me back within hours, apparently I had an older injury a partial tear and now a full tear of the rotator cuff. This is going to cramp my activities considerably. No range trips or anything else much for months. Need to figure out what insurance covers. It may be sunny out, but it’s pouring rain at the moment.

So sorry to hear that sika, sounds like an op ahead. You're in an area with wonderful medical facilities and often that procedure can be done at an outpatient surgery center. Between Medicare and your private plan, hopefully you have no out of pocket expenses. Yes no more range trips for awhile, it's down to fondling the guns in the safe.

Yeah, the older partial tear puzzled me, don’t know when it could have happened. I’m waiting for the specialist to contact me. Hopefully it’ll be possible to do the “mini open repair”, sounds like the way to go. Healing will be a bit long with therapy .

Early yesterday morning strong gusty winds started blowing, then before sunrise it started raining. Early yesterday afternoon it started snowing and it kept snowing into the evening and then the winds returned. That was the last storm on the calendar.

On March 12th we return to Daylight Saving Time and March 20th is the first day of Spring or the vernal equinox.

Looks beautiful TNG, looks similar here but more. The two highest peaks here, one 11,500 and the other 10,800 are covered with the white stuff and the mountain chains around them.

Gov. Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency in response to severe winter storms that have impacted much of Southern California, officials announced Wednesday night. “The Governor has also activated the State Operations Center to bring state support to county-led emergency response efforts and coordinate mutual aid from neighboring jurisdictions, especially in San Bernardino County,” the emergency declaration noted.

Residents in Crestline, Lake Arrowhead, Wrightwood, Running Springs and other communities in areas of San Bernardino County have been snowed in for several days, with many having lost power and running low on essential supplies, like food and medicine. Travel in and out of the area has been crippled by the closure of Highway 18. Drivers going up the highway are only allowed with California Highway Patrol and Caltrans escorts, and the lines continue to be long.

Beautiful!

The Weather service is saying we may get another foot this weekend. Half the country lost power in the last one and people are still dealing with the tree damage (it will take me months to clean up the property, an unfortunate"must" before the return of fire season since the fallen limbs are fire ladders into the tree crowns). As strong as oaks are, they apparently do very poorly with the downward pressure of wet snow. It's sad. They've been hammered by drought the last several years and now snow.

In my almost 70 years, I've never experienced a February like that recently past.
Lots of rain, snowed 2 days ago. Wind has been brutal at times. We have a bumper crop of weeds now, brush fire fuel down the road.

All this from the land of 122F summers...

We'll see.
