Gun Toting Feminist

Hey everyone. My name is Kamboja. I have lived in Nebraska most of my life, but I was born in Singapore. I am currently going to a technical college to learn diesel locomotive engineering and maintenance, I also have an interest in philosophy, economics, history and evolutionary biology/psychology.

I have been shooting firearms since my mother bought a shotgun in early middle school, much to the surprise of my father as he was used to the total disarmament which is enforced in Singapore. I love firearms for sport shooting and I carry one every day for defense. I have tried out a few gun clubs, but generally found the border Gestapo and war-mongering bent of many members rather creepy and gross. Glad to see there are liberals/Progressives out there who aren't all about disarming

Politics-wise I guess I am a bit out-of-step, I am strongly influenced by old decentralist Progressives (John T. Flynn), libertarians (Will Wilkinson), various communitarians and plain old classical liberalism. I am a strong individualist feminist, ala Dora Marsden and Wendy McElroy. This is one of my philosophical motives behind supporting individual firearm ownership, as I believe self-defense is the right of every woman and don't trust the militarized fascistic police to even take my life seriously, much less protect me. I generally support decentralization, the deconstruction of the Federal Government and the power of the State Capitols and I'd be willing to let people give outright anarchism a shot if they felt inclined to do so. I've been active in LBGT, free immigration, free trade and anti-racism groups.

My current collection includes:
CZ75 9x19mm
Glock 20 10mm Auto
Ruger Model 44 .44 Magnum
Sig P239 .357 Sig
Sig P210-6 9x19mm

Welcome! As an interesting note, when I met my fiance she was strictly anti-gun and an ardent feminist. Now? She's finally getting to school to get a degree in women's studies/gender studies, and has co-opted my Mosin-Nagant M38 as her own! (She loves bolt-actions). So, still a feminist, but one with a degree and a big gun :D

I think you will fit in just fine :welcome:

Hehe, your GF sounds like a real tiger!

I am slowly bringing around some of my other feminist girlfriends to the pro-gun stance. I've taken them out shooting with me and asked, "When you're walking home at night and a 6'3" 250lb man corners you, what do you want in your purse: a can of pepper spray or a .357 snubby?"

Greetings!

My wife, while not an anti to begin with, was pretty apathetic. Now, she has her own rifle, Sig (her taste in men is far better than her taste in handguns), and is looking for an A3 pink AR15.

The option my girl chose was a Taser C2. She's not comfortable with pistols (not the most physically coordinated), but the C2 is proven and the AZ department of corrections swears by both the civilian C2 for court carry and the X26 for facility carry. It's not as finite as a pistol, but regardless of what the armchair macho-tacticool-mall-ninjas say, it hurts like HELL and will put you out of the game for a bit.

I know: I got zapped with one during the SB1070 protests

Have followed McElroy for a while now, but I should probably read her stuff more carefully (particularly the free speech/porn works, I'm a left-anarchist).

My wife is currently writing her Master's thesis (something about erotica by contemporary Mexican female authors), but she's still very careful about the feminist label...but, she shoots better than me with her Colt 1911, in .45 ACP nonetheless.

Go grrrlll power...

Wendy's book XXX: A Woman's Right to Pornography is a masterpiece, very entertaining to read and is available on her website. A pro-sex/pro-pornography stance is one of the major subjects I research and write on in my Women's Studies class.

Welcome! Pro equal rights, from Florida. My GF was neutral to the idea of guns before we got together, but now she owns a 9mm carbine, and a P-38. :D

eelj wrote:Would you elaborate on diesel locomotive engineering and maintanence? welcome to the site.
I am studying the mechanics and design of diesel engines, specifically those to drive locomotives; and the maintenance and repair of existing models. I think that if it weren't for Eisenhower's subsidy to the automobile industry (i.e., national highways) we would have a much larger presence of locomotives in this country. I intend to move to China and work on their locomotive systems, possibly doing some further schooling there on their new high speed rails.

Sweet another 10mm owner!
Yes, I have a mag extender. Nothing says "NO!" like 17+1 rounds of .357Mag equivalent.
My girlfriend likes the right to porn site.
Almost as good as porn!
