Democrats should be thanking Trump, who depressed the Republican vote with his talk of election fraud. And over $200 million helped. Hope Warnock and Ossoff win any recounts and they are certified as the winners. It would be a nice start for Biden. The 2022 midterm is a new game.

Furious GOP official says Trump has done more damage to Georgia than anyone since General Sherman

Many Republicans are still furious at President Donald Trump for likely costing them the Senate thanks to his constant complaints that the state had "rigged" its election against him.

In fact, CNN's Manu Raju reports that one "senior Republican official" unloaded on Trump Wednesday by making a brutal Civil War analogy.

"Not since General Sherman has one man done as much damage, to as many people, in as little time," the official said.

William Sherman was a Union Army general during the American Civil War who is infamous in Georgia for his "March to the Sea" in which he and his men traveled from Atlanta to Savannah while leaving a trail of burned cities, farms, and infrastructure in their wake.

After comparing Trump to Sherman, the GOP official also slammed Trump for his unique skill in driving Democratic voter turnout.

"No one in the history of our country turns out voters like Donald Trump," the official said. "The problem is, the overwhelming majority of them vote against him and anyone loosely affiliated with him."

A letter from the second civil war in Georgia: :yahoo:

Seriously, my thoughts: Warnock and Ossoff ran on healthcare, pandemic economy, climate change, anti-racism, anti-hate, anti-corruption, and civil rights. They intentionally never mentioned Trump.

Loeffler and Perdue called them radical communist socialists who want to defund the police. They ran on white grievance and Trump.

I don't remember the 2A or gun control ever once being mentioned by either side. I saw some NRA ads online once in a while about it, but it doesn't register here if the Dems aren't running on it.

The lesson? Dems don't want to vote for moderates here. They want progressives. Gun control is a losing issue here.

Unintended Consequences.

Since this stupid botched coup attempt stopped the counting it will allow Ossoff and Warnock to take their seats and the first order of business before the Electoral Vote Recount can be the acknowledgement of a new Senate Majority Leader.

Yes the NY Times is reporting that Ossoff has won over Perdue in the other GA senate election.

If they survive a recount and certification, Democrats will have limited control of the Senate.

CNN is also projecting a win for Ossoff.

There won't be an automatic recount. It wasn't close enough (by law 0.5% means auto recount).

I doubt the GOP has the stomach for a recount after the Trump violence today. It would be a really good way to rev up Dem voting for 2022 if they want to keep losing recounts and pissing people off.

Mitch and Co cannot block cabinet nominees or judges for two years. GOP cannot block legislation that makes GOP senators votes be used against them. GOP cannot investigate the investigators and political enemies for two years (Benghazi, Hunter, Hillary). GOP cannot block investigations into political corruption and self-dealing. It was a win for our sanity, and we needed a break from Ron Johnson and Ted Cruz.

Dems can use budget procedures to promote green energy, CDC, education, and healthcare. No gun bans, no big proposals, but no Betsy DeVos or Bill Barr. It could have been much worse.

Yes, hoping that Loffler and Perdue don't ask for recounts and this is the end. It's not "easy street" ahead for Biden.

I have a feeling that McConnell is telling all of his people to shut up and be cool now. They have already lost a lot of voters, and the voters may want vengeance if they continue this fake civil war confederacy crap. Time will tell.

I looked at the numbers county by county before it was called for Ossoff and I saw that not only was he going to win, he was going to surpass, easily, the half-point threshold below which, an automatic recount is triggered.
The trends in key counties (like DeWalt) would clearly put Ossoff well over the 23,000 margin he would need. They did. Later, I saw that the current numbers look exactly as I expected.

Yeah, after the 2020 election, it became easier to read the tea leaves in GA. The turnout was far higher than anyone expected for a January runoff (4.5 million). The secretary of state and governor stopped trying to suppress votes after POTUS said they should be jailed. It turns out that more people vote if you let them vote.

Newt is out of touch. Republicans had more (paid) people on the ground here than Dems did. More voters voted during the runoff than in the 2016 election.

Dems had multiple organizations working together (AAPI, Latinx, African-American, etc) but the African-American vote is the majority of the Dem voters here and is a very large population. Voters were motivated on all sides. GOP always gets 70+% of White voters (they almost always vote), but that isn't a winning number anymore if everyone else is motivated.

And Kemp did himself a political favor by opposing Trump. Trump treated Kemp like crap and he didn't budge. His primary voters will respect that. Most of us were happy to see that. Kemp will have a right-wing challenger from the Gainesville Mafia (probably Doug Collins) but he made his Country Club Republicans happy. He knows the far-right GOP voters will never ever vote for a Democrat.

Thanks for clarifying. Perdue's seat is vacant right now but by Jan 22nd the election will be certified and GA will have two new senators.
