Only goes to show that these terrorists in waiting only want one thing: Religious and racial fundamentalism in the US. The fact that they are targeting other Conservatives for not being either Conservative enough or the wrong colour shows just how screwed up they have become.
I hope against hope this does not become a pattern, but frankly, it's already begun and I feel it is getting much worse

Fundamentalists threaten and (in some cases) kill those who don't agree with their views. I haven't heard you threaten anyone to become Catholic, so no worries there. It's pretty clear cut to me that when you cross the line and start shouting phrases like "Get a Rope" when a Black person walk into the room, you're well on the "fundamentalist/terrorist" side. Being devout is admirable. Being violent is reprehensible.

I agree with Neotrotsky and I know the Catholic Church well. There is a big difference between the current reactionary hierarchy of the Catholic Church and average Catholics who don't support the Benedict XVI regime, but consider themselves liberal John XXIII type Catholics. John XXIII was amazing but around for too brief a time.

I think it goes to show the teabaggers true target is Republican party, especially moderates and the rare left leaner, more so than Democrats.

Irishman most right wing fundimentalists in this country think Catholics are apostates from hell, only one step above me an atheist, I don't care what people believe as long as they don't want me to be like them.

the serious reply is that it depends on the religious covenants they've made, if they're still active in the faith, etc. and unfortunately they're not as sexy as thongs, but then I don't want to imagine any of the LDS hausfraus I know in a thong, either.

I'll second this, I've had fundies that I've worked with, unaware of my atheist leanings, refuse to associate with me after they found out my wife is Catholic. Maniac fringe Protestant fundamentalists can be just as scary as Muslim fundamentalists.

Fundamentalism is fundamentalism. Once it hits a certain point, it's scary no matter WHAT it is.

That is true. I am Catholic as well, though I will be going straight to hell I am sure. I have known some scary fundamentalist Catholics, Protestants, etc... Fundamentalism is the inability to think clearly and rationally. They tend to be so stilted that they need to cling to a rigid and aggressive ideology to make sense of their world. I tend to see religion as I see most things. It is a man made structure that seeks to help people explain things they do not understand and strive for some sense of improvement. Like anything, people abuse it and misuse it for any number of reasons.
Fundamentalists are people who are so internally weak in their own faith, that they need to shape the external environment to validate their ideas. Your path has nothing to do with mine and mine has nothing to do with yours. My goal is to be the best I can be and to treat you with dignity as best I can. If I fail, that is on me.
