What the hell...a liberal gun club! I have been searching for you for a long time. I am from Delaware, have a CCW license and believe me, it was hard to get. I got back into guns soon after my father died a few years ago..guess I was trying to reconnect with the many fun times we had plinking at the quarry and doing some low-level small bore tournament shooting when in my teens. I am now a few decades older and am enjoying every minute of shooting, researching gun reviews and getting all sorts of relatives (brother, sons-in-law, daughter) and friends as interested as I am. When people ask why I, a past vegetarian and definite progressive, am so interested in guns I say "I like things that go bang." I have built up a modest arsenal that allows me to feel comfortable defending my home and person, while I am out and about. I am interested in this forum because it sems like common sense reigns here, ideologues are small in number and free-thinking is appreciated. Thanks for being you - you'll be hearing from me.

Oh, we have some knock- down drag- out fights sometimes, but Mark keeps us in line. But we don't call each other " traitor", " anti- american", or other vile crap.
Welcome!

Yes we do. That is what Liberals/Democrats do. We fight each other on nuance so that when the time comes to fight conservatives on outright lies, we are tired.

Seriously though, there is a wide range of opinion here if you check on some of the recent threads. It is a good group of people though and we agree to disagree rather than do all of the name calling that Comedian stated.

Welcome.

Again welcome - although its a weird time to be new here. Lots of heated debates because of the AZ gunman thing. But debate is good as long as its honest, people are open to the fact they may be wrong (this is a hard one for everyone sometimes :) ) and we try to keep it civil. There are also a lot of new members. Which is always a good thing.

Glad to have ya here.

Welcome from one of (the only?) resident females!

I lived in Boston for a while and I understand what it is like to have mostly liberal/progressive views and have one glaring difference that makes all the other liberals squint at you like you're really a republican sent to spy on them.

I also was asked numerous times if everyone in Missouri owned some sort of livestock or farmed.

Greetings, salutations and welcome from fly over country.

I see state pride and regionalism is alive and well, judging from all you southerners on here. So, I must rise and defend my beloved state of Delaware and explain some misconceptions y’all may have about it.
• First, yes we are pretty damn small and proud of it. Three counties, less than a million people.
• The University of Delaware Fighting Blue Hens football team was indeed trounced in the Nationals in Texas last week, blowing a 19 point lead in the first half. Guess we were disoriented by being in that huge state.
• The “Blue Hens” mascot actually refers to the fighting cocks the Delaware Continental Army bet on for entertainment; which were the chicks of a certain blue hen, known for producing fanatical fighters. Writing this I just realized “fighting cock” could conjure up all sorts of messages but I will let it go.
• Delaware was the first state to ratify the U.S., Constitution, because we were wary of those big bad states around us, pushing us around.
• We are southern AND northern culturally and relish the contradictions that implies. Think muskrat stew and Polish blintzes.
• During the Civil War, many from the southernmost, Sussex County, joined the ranks of Virginia and other Confederate forces; while the northern counties were staunch Unionists.
• Delaware had, by far, the highest number of freed slaves per capita of any state, owing, in part, to the efforts of very influential groups of Quakers and Methodists.
• Democrats outnumber Republican roughly 60-40.
• Concealed Carry regs are some of the most difficult in the country – you have to advertise your application in the newspaper, take a training course, get five recommendations, fingerprints and photo ID and the wait time for approval is anywhere from 3-6 months!
• I live in “slower Delaware”, a pun on “lower Delaware”, below the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal, which implies I am a red-neck farmer, have a lot of guns and enjoy dog fighting. Gee, how does a Decorative Arts Curator like me survive here?
• Avoid, if possible, the southern and eastern parts of downtown Wilmington, our largest city, especially around the train station. Something about being on the major drug trafficking route between Philadelphia and Baltimore/Washington. Too bad, our surrounding states of New Jersey and Maryland are, if possible, even more unfriendly than others, since they do NOT reciprocate CCW licenses from Delaware, as most other states do.

Welcome! Not going to say anything about your home state, except that I've donated about $300 to your toll booths.

Let me quickly clear up a few misconceptions here... If you're in the south, a Yankee is from the north. If you're in the north, a Yankee is from New England. If you're in New England, a Yankee is from Vermont. If you're in Vermont, a Yankee is someone who eats apple pie with a slice of cheddar cheese for breakfast.

I've eaten pickled periwinkle (and liked it)...
Recognize that in terms of measurement, 1 Standard Maine Unit (SMU) = 300 lbs...
Have heard the use the word "fiddlefuck" twice in one day.

Welcome. Congrats on not being a vegetarian anymore!

If Jesus wanted us to only eat plants, he wouldn't have given Adam canines when he created the universe 6000 years ago.
