Difficult to believe you can be liberal on most issues and pro 2A. I, personally, support all of the the rights in the BOR. Is that too difficult to understand?

This is something that got me in hot water over at the SKS Survival Boards.
I asked them, point blank, where having liberal values means I automatically give up my constitutional right to protect me and mine?
There was much honking and belching and many, many stereotypes thrown around. Democrats must hate guns! It says so right here in the flier! When I pointed out that no, I had voted Democrat AND owned guns, they ignored my arguments and went back to screaming that I must be a socialist who hates freedom and guns.

I'm a Texas Liberal, which means I sometimes purchase firearms that are of a smaller caliber than .45 acp.

It isn't a difficult to understand if you look at the historical stance of Democratic leaders like FDR and Eleanor Roosevelt, and JFK on gun ownership (they were for it). It is also possible to see that with the rise of inner city violence (where many Democrats/Liberals live) and the assassinations of leaders like JFK, RFK, and MLK Jr. that the party would shift on the issue.

As I have been harping on all of today, the issue that we Liberals need to focus on is creating a better climate for the citizenry through education, employment, and enrichment as well as respecting each other. There will always be people who through mental defect, or other factors will pose a threat to others and we should be allowed to defend ourselves using effective tools, but we also need to understand and respect the fact that misuse of those tools can result in tragedy.

I loved the AK Files till I ventured off into general discussion. The info on AK's is more than fullfilling for any enthusiest, but I got tired of the constant badgering about religion and all the fucking name calling. It was like being back in school for christ sake. So I decided to go out with a few last words of my own. If you google my screen name you may find my final letter of appreciation to those assholes.
