Hey, all. I'm seeking personal observations and experiences regarding the Mossberg 802 Plinkster. I'm mostly trying to find out if I lucked out with the one I bought, or if they're really that precise.
I bought it several years back, primarily to use as a Squirrel Eliminator in my suburban back yard.We have bird feeders, and of course the squirrels loved raiding and damaging them. My old Daisy Red Ryder just wasn't getting the job done so, since there's a 12-14 foot berm behind the yard, I decided to get serious. Because my only .22 rifle at the time was a CZ 452 Varmint that I'd set up to practice longer-range shooting, I shelled out the $125 or so for the Mossberg.
It came with the thumbhole stock and hinged forend. I topped it with a Bushnell Banner 4-12x40 AO that I've had around for a long time. It looks as though the scope is larger than the rifle! I sighted it in at 25 yards because that's the distance from house to berm. Imagine my surprise and pleasure when the combo consistently turned in one-ragged-hole performance! It proved just as precise in actual use, too. No more squirrel problems.
I've never shot it at ranges of more than 25 yards, but I've got a pretty good hunch it'd do pretty well "out yonder" as well. I've been telling other .22 fanciers about this, but so far all I've gotten in response is the sound of crickets....
So what do y'all think? Are they that precise, or did I luck out on my purchase?
Re: Mossberg 802 Plinkster
2i have an 802, reviews are good to very good. mine appears to be good but i haven't had the opportunity to see what it can do. i've put a little air rifle scope on it but haven't sighted it in.
i see no one told you about the no-pic rule. no pics, no cookie.
i'm retired. what's your excuse?

3Actually, I couldn't figure out how to post a pic that resides on my computer.lurker wrote: Wed Aug 19, 2020 2:27 pm i see no one told you about the no-pic rule. no pics, no cookie.

4it is a little awkward. you need to use the "full editor" which happens automatically when you edit or quote an existing post. down toward the bottom are two tabs, "options" and attachments". "attachments is the one you want.there's an add file button, OR what i like to is to just drag a pic from my desktop and drop it in the message window (which will have a dashed border when you drag the pic into the frame), then you have to click inside the post to indicate where the pic goes, and i'm a mushroom, i'm a mushroom, i'm a real fungi.DufusMcGhee wrote: Wed Aug 19, 2020 6:36 pmActually, I couldn't figure out how to post a pic that resides on my computer.lurker wrote: Wed Aug 19, 2020 2:27 pm i see no one told you about the no-pic rule. no pics, no cookie.
then click "place inline", and submit your post. like i said, it's awkward, but oddly enough it makes sense after you've done it a couple of times.
there are a couple of other quirks, like how many pics (3 i think) per post, and how big each can be (400k?). confused? ya me too.
