Looks like I have stumbled upon a group of folks that I can enjoy myself with.
Here's a little backstory for anyone that may be interested. I grew up in a liberal household with the majority of my extended family being conservative. After high school I decided I didn't like the non-existent path I was heading down so I joined the Army as an Infantryman. I was stationed out of Fort Polk Louisiana with 4th Brigade 10th Mountain Division as a machine gunner. Served one tour overseas in Afghanistan. I'd say about 85% of my unit consisted of conservatives as well. After I finished my enlistment I have lived in a few different places here in the lower peninsula in Michigan, but now my wife and I have settled down northwest of Ann Arbor.
Prior to the pandemic I was really looking for gun clubs around here to join. I found that I was running into the same problem at every one I went to. The overwhelming majority of people that were hanging around these clubs were far right. Now I have coexisted with people like this my whole life, but at this stage in life I guess my patience is thin and I am looking for some similar minded folks to enjoy guns with. Looking forward to nerding out over guns and having some meaningful, rational conversation.
Currently I own: CZ Protek II, Ruger LC9s pro, Daniel Defense DDM4v7lw, WBP Fox Ak47, Remington 870, Mosin Nagant, K98.
I tried to snap some pictures of them all but my file sizes are too large, but here's an oldie of the Protek II for the meantime:

4Pistols and milsurps. This is just fine. What an interesting time we are living in, eh? A variety of opinions exist, and most can be found here. Greets.

5Hi, and welcome! We come from all kinds of backgrounds, and are as diverse a group in age, ethnicity, gender, geographic local, and opinions as I've come across. Most groups I've joined have either been strictly non-political, or, sooner or later right-wingers would spoil the place with CONSTANT attacks, internet stalking, and even "denial of service" strategies of filling page after page after page with garbage--to ensure NO POV but theirs could appear.
Here, such trolls get tossed, but the occasional Conservative, willing to honestly debate (and there aren't many) does appear.
I landed in NJ 27 years ago, where gun laws are incredibly strict, a few make ZERO sense, but it's not quite as illogical as New York or California. I was pretty much anti-gun, though we once considered getting a shotgun. Then Trump was elected, with his anti-Semitic and racist KKK followers and my wife and I agreed it was time.
I have an HK-VP9 and Sig P320 RX Compact, both in 9mm, a Ruger 1771 (7 round stainless version of the GP100) in .357 mag, a Beretta Cx4 Storm PCC and Kel-Tec Sub2000 (gen 2) both in 9mm, an old Marlin 1894 in .357 mag, and a Windham Hunter AR-10 in .308.
I tried to limit my calibers to as few as possible, but even these few, laughably seem to multiply....9mm in FMJ and JHP, .357 in FMJ and JHP, (and, of course) .38 Special in both because the revolver and cowboy gun also take .38, and .308 in FMJ and steel-cased Tula crap. So 3 basic calibers turned into 8 variations! Consequently, I'm avoiding an AR-15 and the AK group!

Re: Hello from Michigan
7Hey there. I lived in Ypsi-Arbor for 5 years during school at EMU. I really enjoyed my time in Michigan, and I enjoy return visits periodically (the in-laws are up in the Gladwin area). I was pretty familiar with a couple of clubs in that area (Washtenaw Sportsmans League and Tri-County Sportsmans League). Neither was especially political back when I was there ('05-'10), but a lot may have changed since I moved away.

8Hi from Route 66 in Kingman, AZ. There's a lot of snow birds here in Arizona from Michigan (I used to be one from PA). I'd say 90% of the snow birds from Michigan living in Arizona are trumpsters.

18I think we will enjoy your insights and learn from your experience and straightforward sensibilities here. While we may all harbor strong and sometimes differing points of view here, I would hope that intelligent reasoning will always drive the discussions along with the mutual understanding that we are often like blind men trying earnestly to describe a very large elephant.
Nice CZ. Not a model I was familiar with.

Hello from Michigan
19Hello from a fellow Michigander now living in Floriduh! Where are you from originally? I lived in Detroit early on (then again in my 20s) but was raised in St. Clair Shores. If I hadn’t left I’d probably be living in Ann Arbor. You’ve found a good place here, lot of knowledge, helpful people...welcome!

Re: Hello from Michigan
20I am new to the group and new to shooting. I'm a 72 year old woman, and my same-gender spouse and I decided that in these frightening political times, we want to have some home protection which might level our chances better than a frying pan or bat would during a home invasion from MAGA extremist vigilantes. It turns out that we also really like shooting! Does anyone know a "liberal friendly, or even neutral range in SW Michigan? Saugatuck/Douglas area? We just got the S&W M&P 9mm Shield EZ.
