One of our Kossacks did saw a VT related video (included in the link above) and wrote about the 'gun show loophole' nonsense. The link is a bit old, but still enjoyable.

"Permitting guns on campuses is simply a reaction to dangerous situations that come together due to failures in multiple areas of our society. It won't make it less likely that horrible tragedies will occur again."

This is true and it is also true that restriction of guns will not make it less likely that similar tragedies will occur. So I wonder, what is the point of the restriction?

And a student that would murder a teacher over failing grades would care about the rules regarding guns on campus how exactly?

Let me get this straight. They think that rules against carrying guns on campus are going to deter a student who is willing to MURDER a teacher?

The truth of the matter is, these idiots think that guns magically turn people into raving psychopaths. That an otherwise normal person will suddenly become a homicidal maniac if they touch a gun.

I've never understood people who enact useless, unenforceable laws to make themselves feel safer. As if someone bent on committing murder would stop at the thought of violating a concealed carry rule. Unless you built a Supermax style structure around the campus & forced students to submit to TSA probes each time they came to class, this proposal would only create more gun-free zones where a killer can be assured of striking with impunity.

First, I don't think that Mark was arguing a point, although I may be wrong.

Second, I agree that the idea behind the restriction is based on irrational fear about the effect of firearms on people. I do think that there are people who think that a firearm present would create the irresistible urge to commit a mass murder. It is stupid.

Wait I thought they were doing a pretty good job of keeping firearms off campus at VT. :sly: Isn't that why nobody fired back?

The students & faculty were afraid of Loughner hence his getting the boot from College. Some even said they knew it had to be him before the name was released. I'm sure he will be pointed to on why to keep them off campus.

Plus to be honest, how many college students are high on campus? Or still hung over? These are factors too.

The original link is broken. Got another one by any chance?

Id like to read it, as I tend to agree with the idea...

Pass a law saying it is illegal to operate a firearm while over the legal driving limit of BAC or while under the influence of drugs. Even as a steadfast defender of RKBA, I could agree with such a law. I do not think anyone should operate a firearm under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

As for loughner, the man wasn't concerned with the illegal nature of MURDERING 6 PEOPLE and shooting 14 others, do you really think he would have given 2 ####s about a rule banning guns from his college campus?!?!
