This would have to be shipped to an FFL, right?

I would buy one to help get the discount, although I'm not sure if/when I would buy / build the rest of it.

Yes, a lower would be shipped to an FFL only.

I imagine that a LGC AR would be a good statement to both the liberal and conservative wings in this country especially if there could be an article in a main stream gun rag, myself if you could get Lipseys to get Ruger to make a run of five shot Bearcats in 32 H&R I'd be first in line.

Ditto. I don't know when I'd build a Mattel rifle (I just bought a WASR AK this weekend, comrades), but I'd take one for the team.

How much are we talking about here per item. Like others, I really don't have a need but might take one for the team if the price is within my range.

I like FN's idea for the motto, with one minor tweak that's bothering me:

"The Liberal Gun Club: All Amendments, All The Time"

I took out the 10 because there are a bunch of amendments. I don't think it changes the effect. Correct me if I am wrong.

Maybe

"The Liberal Gun Club: All *the* Amendments, All the Time"

So consensus is a no go on the logo idea then?

I'll have to run it by the mrs. and see what she says, but I'm interested. rather an AK than an AR, but if an AR what about a 300 blackout lower, or else AR-10? I think I'd prefer the logo to some statement, and can we get "safe" and "fire" in russian? 5.56 can suck it.

It's a lower. That means you can mount whatever upper you want to it, including a 50BMG upper. No, I'm not kidding.

I like AKs as much as the next guy, but I'm surprised it's so pro-AK here (from what I've seen so far.)

I am ok with a logo but I don't think our official logo would transfer, its too complex and would probably be lost at that size.

See, the nice thing about the AR lower is that it's like $110. I can afford that usually. A full AK...not so much. Not to mention that the AK doesn't fire any of the rounds I have stockpiled (5.56, 45ACP, 7.62x54R, .22LR, .22Mag.)

Um, forgive my ignorance, but what calibers can an AR be built for? I know there's 5.56, 6.8, some kind of .50, etc. Are they ever built for 7.62?

Yes. There are a whole bunch of different calibers.

5.56, 7.62x9, 7.62x25, .45ACP, 9mm, .50Beo, .50BMG, crossbow, 6.5, 6.8, .450, .458...

Who's point man on this? I assume someone's taking names so we have a solid number for people who want to order?

Works for me. I just really love the Bill of Rights. Removing "10" will also help reduce confusion between a certain species in this country that thinks that Moses brought them down on tablets from Mt. Sinai.

Ummmm... my SLR- 106FR ( AK-101 clone) shoots 5.56x45mm... and it eats the cheap-o steel cased Russkie stuff ARs choke on.

Maybe this style of print for the LGC name with the "ALL The Amendments ALL The Time " in a slightly smaller font below?

http://www.cafepress.com/liberalgunclub.437204723

As far as the point man for orders, maybe we should get our resident FFL in on this?

Another option may be to get a small defensive pistol with our name on it somewhere. Maybe this should have it's own thread.

I am no fan of any semi auto rifle, they just don't do it for me, but as a member of this club I could see this as a good PR stunt if the club could pull it off and get some press over it, not just for new members but as a statement to the liberal mainstream that they have voting members that believe in the 2nd am, I mean no slight to the russian fans here but I think a US battle rifle as the platform would be best.

Cool! I've not seen that. The AKs I'm familiar with shoot 7.62x39 and 5.45mm. Oh, and 12 gauge, if you want to count the Saiga. Hmm. How expensive was that SLR-106FR though?

AmirMortal wrote: That is a great idea, but one problem is the essential difference between the AR and AK platforms. AR lowers can be assembled from parts with just a few hand tools, and an AR upper can be added easily. With an AK we'd pretty much have to go with a barreled action, due to the fact that a shop press is needed to install the barrel to the receiver/trunnion, as well as the gas block and front sights. There are a lot of rivets or screws that are needed too along with some fairly specialized tools.
I'm with Amir on this, it's much easier to assemble an AR than to build an AK, and that's really it, to assemble an AR you just put the parts together, to build an AK is a lot of machine work. Besides that, AKs are fun to blow some ammo with, but they can't approach the accuracy of the AR and have only a little better than half the effective range of an AR.

Guys, just do as I did - build an AR upper in 5.45x39 caliber and use same ammo for your AK and AR. 7.62x39 is available too. :smart:

Hey, that lower is now gone...
http://blogs.villagevoice.com/runninsca ... un_acc.php
In the wake of Saturday's shooting in Arizona -- and amid this morning's "blood libel" -- the AR-15 lower receiver gun piece unearthed by the Huffington Post and Dave Weigel, which immortalizes Rep. Joe Wilson's "You lie!" cry at President Obama, was frightening to say the least. It appears the piece is no longer available, with the website now bringing up a "404 Not Found" message, but the damage is done -- it existed -- and it's already spreading online. Congratulations, Palmetto State Armory -- you're famous!

Yeah, PSA yanked it.

To be fair to SC, our local alternative newspaper also reported on this. And guess what, Wilson is now claiming he is glad its down, he didn't really like it apparently. Ha.

By the way, local media are now mentioning another bit of SC

There was some oddball resolution that SC passed called "TO AFFIRM THE RIGHTS OF SOUTH CAROLINA BASED ON THE PROVISIONS OF THE NINTH AND TENTH AMENDMENTS TO THE UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION. "

There was a lot of stuff put in there as a backlash to they were calling increased federal power, particularly the health care reform. It says fun things like:
Be it further resolved that this resolution serves as notice and demand to the federal government, as South Carolina's agent, to cease and desist immediately all mandates that are beyond the scope of the federal government's constitutionally delegated powers.
You can read the full text here: http://www.scstatehouse.gov/sess118_200 ... ls/424.htm

The part that people are focusing on was amendment which, the way I understand it, was adopted but then was removed with some later amendment. Its not included in the final document. These are the two phrases that were amended. The amendment was simply to add the underlined words:

Whereas, intervention by armed South Carolinians may prove to be the sole means for this State to protect the liberties guaranteed it and all other States under the Tenth Amendment to the United States Constitution

Whereas, due to the potential need for intervention by armed South Carolinians, the protections afforded under the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution are of upmost importance to the citizens of South Carolina and the State of South Carolina; and

There are a couple things that struck me:

1. "armed" seems too narrow when speaking about ways to intervene
2. The entire resolution basically says " f' the feds, they can't make us do anything"
3. I wonder how many resolutions like this were passed during the de-segregation debates?
4. "upmost" isn't a word. I hear people around here say that all the time. It isn't a word. Shouldn't *someone* in the entire damn House or Senate have been able to catch that?? Jesus.
