Ran out of my roasted beans and had my daughter pick up a bag of roasted at Costco - first use made me realize that roasting my own was a great idea! LOL Now that my T6 back has been grouted, I'm able to function semi-normally again. Will be in back brace for another 3-4 weeks, then PT. Plus lung problems led to a bronchoscopy to flush out.
Did three one pound roast this morning prior to heat setting in. Honduran, med.; Columbian Excelso med; and Mexican Nextlalpa, dark. Wasn't anticipating all the health problems and now have enough raw beans to make it into 2025 having ordered 15 lbs. from Smokin' Beans and 15 lbs. from Coffee Bean Corral just before the SHTF plus several pounds from previous orders.
Presto popper still working well and lamp chimney still intact. Had to change up roasting procedure due to back & brace. Stir beans until chaff storm over, then pop chimney in place for final phase. Then sit and listen for cracks to determine roast level. Worked fairly well with Honduran and Columbian as they were quite crack vocal. Not so much the Mexican which led to darker roast than I planned - cracks were very slight. One benefit - house smells really good with all the degassing going on! LOL

How much do you roast at a time in your popper? Mine quit with the motor giving up, and use the skillet contraption in my earlier post.
I vac pack my green beans in one pound batches when received. I generally buy five pounds of each variety. A one pound batch takes four individual 3/4 +/- cups in popper. Any more than 3/4 and popper will over heat quickly; any less and beans go flying all over. I use the popper chute at start up, stirring beans with long handled end of wooden spoon until the beans begin to brown and chaff storm over, then switch to lamp chimney to completion (eye balling roast level I'm shooting for). Have large stand fan blowing over during roasting to help cool popper and send chaff elsewhere on patio. When roast level reached, shut down popper, pour hot beans in wire sieve basket and pour back and forth between two sieves, then pour 1/4 batch into large aluminum colander until all four 3/4 cups complete. Then pour between colanders in front of fan to further cool and de-chaff further. Then set aside to completely cool, after which placed in degassing canisters with date disc on lid. Use sticky note to ID which type of coffee in each. I normally do 2-3 one pound batches each roast - sometimes four. No doubt this missive is TMI!! LOL

My coffee this morning was the Columbian Excelsor - smooth, non-bitter and delicioso. Not sure what I'm gonna do with the crap from Costco - maybe try blending in with the good stuff - hate to waste it, but may trash anyway if can't find a good way to use up.

Guns-n-coffee. Sort of. A bit tedious. Static's not an issue when I grind with the ceramic burr hand gizmo, but it is painfully slow. My electric one does indeed generate a lot of clinginess but what you gonna do? I've thought about rubbing a balloon thru my hair and using the static to pick u chaff from the ground coffee, but I lack the hair. A light spray of water works pretty good, but now I'm paranoid about rust.

I moved up to a Turin™ DF64 Gen 2 Single Dose for $369 back in February, it has an anti-static feature built in.
It does a great job on the grind and removes most of the static.
The two-year-old Breville smart pro I had, started to malfunction and I found out that they won't sell parts to consumers.
Its grind is much better than anything I've ever had, and it improved my Espressos more than I expected.
After ordering it, I found a DIY fix for the Breville online and use it when I'm making reg. coffee with my Areo-press or vacuum pot.

My old Capresso (not a Infinity Plus) is still chugging along. It makes little static and if left to sit after grinding for short time, no static. It's companion OXO with metal grounds cup kills static. Happy with both. My older Mr. Coffee grinder didn't make a year (as I recall) before timer quite working, sits collecting dust. It did well when it worked, and still does if you don't mind continually pushing start button to grind beans. Guess what I've paid for grinders over the years I could afford a $200 unit. Probably should just bite the bullet and buy a roaster instead.
Coffee consumption has dropped drastically this year due to back problems (and heat) and I've got green beans out the kazoo - 40 or so pounds on dining room table and another 20# or so in larder.

I usually buy about a dozen or so #'s of this or that green, roast till I think it's done and bag it without marking which is which. Some I like better than others but am up for a different cup just for fun. Last batch produced nearly zero chaff while grinding, and I can't remember (never knew) which is which. Guess I'll have to start all over.

I've been waiting for one particular 2024 crop of Costa Rican coffee to show up this year and its hasn't yet; 2023 crop was available in May last year. So right now, I'm using a blend of three different beans I had (roasted separately); I'm almost out of beans, but have two ten-pound bags on their way and due to be here on, should be here Friday.

I recently received 5# Costa Rica organic La Amistad Coto Brus beans, but haven't been able to roast as yet. Expect will roast this week early along with Honduran Montecillos and a third if heat not bad, Costa Rica La Magnolia Tres Rios.

Finally was able to get the posted 3x1# roasts done with no hitches. Very warm sultry and humid morning. Was worried the popper wouldn't make it thru without a cool down, but she did well. House very aromatic as cooling and degassing.

Yes, 3# is pushing my luck. I think my not over loading has been key - 3/4 cup raw max (+/- a bit) per roast seems to be sweet spot - less blows beans all over; more cause rapid over heat - takes four separate roast to do a pound. Plus fan blowing over roasting to blow away chaff and help cool popper and roasted beans when poured between two sieves.

Plan on doing 3 one # batches in AM - Mexican, Honduran, Peruvian provided weather holds (expecting some torrential rains).

I bought a AIRMSEN grind and brew one shot coffee maker. Received today, washed, ran pure water in prep thru to flush out and will do first brew in morn. Seems like a nifty unit and good for hot summer days when I don't drink a lot of coffee. Hope it's not a boondoggle but seems well made. The grinder is a blade type that shoots into the built in filter with three grind setting fine, coarse, grind (latter will put some grinds in finished coffee - very fine). Unit easy to clean and disassemble brewing components. Will give report after using for a couple of days. It's also rather compact and about same size as my OXO burr grinder, albeit a bit taller.

Got my three roast done, Mexican, Peruvian & Honduran. Latter was later in morn and patio temp 92 and I had a shut down of popper on last 3/4 cup batch roast. Held popper base in front of chaff fan and finally finished all roast. Haven't used the new coffee maker as yet. Actually had a cup of day old to kick start. Outdoors is miserable already. Looking forward to fall.
Everyone have a great Labor Day Weekend !!
