I have soft concealment armor for my wife and I.
If there is one lesson I learned, it is better to have it and not need it. We are in Florida, so when the power is out from a hurricane and you need to go to the ATM, it is a comfort.
I wore body armor as a soldier, military police and some other stuff, so i understand there are tradeoffs. Hot and heavy sucks and anyone with training will be taking head shots anyway. I don't even train for center mass anymore.
I also have hard plate from when I did more dangerous things, but I don't think I would buy it today, even with all that is going on.
Remember that vests, especially hard plates can add a lot of bulk, makes it hard to lay flat which is critical for cover and concealment. Changes how a rifle or shotgun fits to your body and can prevent swimming, climbing and reaching things as easily. If you don't train wearing one, you don't understand the handicap.
The soft armor is a good compromise, I do actually like hard plate over the soft if you are stationary or doing something very risky, but I mostly don't think it is worth the exhaustion and restrictions.
Soft only stops pistols and stabbing, so don't consider it any protection from rifle rounds.
Something I really like is I have an extensive first Aid kit in my car trunk in a backpack that has a large balistic panel in it. I can throw it on backwards so I look like a pregnant woman and have some protection.
