mk iii upgrade time

1
I've finally grown weary of the mag safety and mediocre trigger on the MK iii. After adding a Volquartsen hammer bushing my MK ii cleaned up nicely, but it was already pretty good. I'm considering just getting a VQ bushing and a used MK ii hammer and keeping it cheap and simple. Next levels would be the VQ hammer kit followed by the Accurizing kit. For those who've got experience with before and after results, are the kits worth it? If so, is stepping up to the accurizing kit worth it over just the hammer? I'm confident it would be a better trigger after installing it, I'm just not sure that it would make much difference at my skill level. That and I'm cheap. :)

Another option would be to upgrade the MK ii and then move those parts over to the MK iii, but that's opening a whole new can of worms.

I went straight to the complete VQ lower, which includes the accurizing kit. The trigger difference is dramatic and makes it the nicest shooting pistol I've shot. That said, somehow the sear came out of alignment, so I'm waiting to hear back from VQ on how it should be fixed (out of warranty at this point)

I recently installed the MK ii accurizing kit in the MK iii. It gets rid of the mag safety. I didn't realize how much it annoyed me it until it was gone. Installation went well and was fairly straight forward. I tested out the functioning during reassembly to make sure I'd done it right. I took it to the range for a much too short session; the trigger pull is much improved. There were two problems, however. The safety did not engage unless the bolt was pulled back and the slide stop did not work consistently. With the receiver off of the frame, the safety worked fine. After poking around Rimfirecentral for a bit, it seemed likely that the safety wasn't closing over the sear properly. At least a couple folks there replaced the sear or safety. A couple others folks filed the inside of the safety catch to improve the fit. I chose the second option after testing the lower with the hammer spring assembly installed (lower and hammer spring, no upper). It was pretty obvious after that experiment. I checked the slide stop and lubed it ever so slightly. Both problems have been resolved and the pistol works great. I adjusted the pre/post trigger travel my liking and installed the LCI removal kit. It's like a new gun. I can't wait to take it to the range again. :-)
