Racism and the black hole of gun control in the US
I do not think it is an exaggeration to suggest that lax gun laws and easy access to firearms are a fundamental reason for the success of the civil rights movement. Charles E Cobb Jr notes this eloquently in his excellent treatise on the subject titled This Nonviolent Stuff'll Get You Killed.

"The tradition of armed self-defense in Afro-American history," writes Cobb, "cannot be disconnected from the successes of what today is called the nonviolent civil rights movement."

This is something many people either forget or never learn: Guns protected the black people who were marching for freedom. If not for the threat of gunfire, many more peaceful protests - and possibly the movement itself - would have been silenced by violence.

Woman would protect the men while voting.

My dad told me about the days when his dad would pull the shotgun put because KKK members were still going and terrorizing people.

let's hope we don't go back there.

...a white officer in Georgia has never been convicted of murder for killing a black man in the line of duty.

FROM TODAY'S NEWSPAPER:

Ga. deputies granted immunity, won’t face murder charges in Taser death

https://www.ajc.com/news/crime--law/jud ... vNsuTv6gL/
It was to be a landmark murder trial, held in a part of the state that’s traditionally given police officers the benefit of the doubt in even the most controversial use of force cases.

Now, just two weeks before it was scheduled to begin, a judge has granted former Washington County deputies Michael Howell, Rhett Scott and Henry Copeland immunity from prosecution. The three former lawmen, all white, were charged after they repeatedly used a Taser on 58-year-old Eurie Martin. The confrontation began when Martin, an African American, made a simple request for water on a hot July evening.

It is believed a white officer in Georgia has never been convicted of murder for killing a black man in the line of duty. Only one officer statewide has been convicted of murder this decade. He was black, as was the victim, killed by a Taser.

Georgia isn't Mississippi, Ohio, or Indiana. This shouldn't happen in 2019 here.

This sort of thing is how you flip a couple senate seats in 2020.

I felt that way about the Texas shootings and general misconduct. This shouldn't be happening.

Sandra Bland broke my heart.

And people wonder why non-GOP want to be armed.
