Sparks Panic In Queens During Firearms Bust
An ICE spokesperson confirmed that one individual was taken into custody on an unspecified criminal arrest warrant. A spokesperson for Mayor Bill de Blasio said the agents were there as part of a federal investigation into a firearms suspect, who was allegedly found to have been hoarding "about 50 guns, including a machine gun, gun parts and ammunition."
People feel terrorized," said Raquel Namuche, an organizer with the Ridgewood Tenants Union. "This happened right across from a youth program for children as young as four-years-old and there seemed to be no safety protocols in place. For people to leave their homes early in the morning and see a tank out on the street is just wild."
Definitely overkill but certainly not a "tank."
Councilmember Antonio Reynoso also expressed frustration about the incident, pointing to constant fear in immigrant neighborhoods about the potential for raids and deportations. "I do not understand what necessitated ICE’s use of a tank other than the simple desire to instill fear amongst our community members," he said in a statement to Gothamist. "At this time, we must ensure that residents are connected to resources like the Immigrant Defense Project so that they are equipped to know their rights against ICE."
Again with the "tank" bit.

Not a tank, but holy shit that's overkill.

It would not be recoverable without using heavy equipment recovery methods, so 'tank' might just work here.

This thread might take the prize for the title most likely to elicit multiple, multiple interpretations.
This has nothing to do with guns. Guy is trying to move the magnetic North pole. Duh. Or maybe a Game of Thrones thing? ;-)
In all seriousness, cops never know what they're going to encounter.

i saw this thread late last night and wrote and deleted 3 different responses to it before i decided best not to reply at all.
i thought i was a collector with my ~ 20 guns, parts, ammo and accoutrements, but apparently i'm a hoarder-in-training.
armored personnel carrier, APC. tanks have tracks.
yes, seems like overkill but if i were one of those cops i'd want some backup on standby.

This is about terrorizing people, not about what’s necessary for some nominal task.

The narrative needs to be if you
own firearms, you are "hoarding" them.

A BearCat is a downmarket version of an APC. But calling it a "tank" dovetails well with semi-automatic carbines being called machine guns and/or assault rifles by those who seek to maximize drama.

I'm OK with calling it a Tank. And I'd be pissed if I saw one in my neighborhood. And I'd be calling it a Tank too.
And when I read the title I was trying to understand "roof gunner", "ICE", and a Ruger single-action .22 in the same sentence.

First, there is no conceivable reason ICE would need an armored vehicle, except to terrorize folks.
Second, unless the suspect is an illegal, why is ICE in on a firearms bust? Where is ATF??
Third, residents of this country are not the enemy and the police are not occupying soldiers. End the Drug War and end the militarization of our police.

Why on earth would LEO (replace acronym as necessary) make an arrest on a suspected "gun hoarder" at the place they "hoard" those guns?

Because "tank".
What's the point if you can't play soldier?

Got that one right. They probably could have picked the guy up when he went to work. Or ran out for milk or beer.
As an aside, the Florida Highway Patrol had these Vietnam-era armored vehicles decades ago --

The same could be said of many no-knock raids.

Totally agreed. Too much violence.
