This administration has been trying to reestablish US bases in Saudi Arabia. Deploying hundreds more now to "counter Iran" as they have been doing for more than a year (just heard it online). Does no one in government remember why this is a bad idea?

U.S. military has begun reestablishing air base inside Saudi Arabia: Hundreds of U.S. troops, fighter jets, and Patriot missile defense systems are moving to Prince Sultan Air Base, officials said.

In June the U.S. military began moving equipment and hundreds of troops back to a military base in Saudi Arabia that the U.S. deserted more than 15 years ago, according to two U.S. officials familiar with the deployment.

Aren't US troops in Saudi Arabia a big part of why al-Qaeda staged the 9/11 attacks in the first place?

The wheels on the bus go round and round ...

And with the mass media covering every hourly outrage and lawless act, this stuff passed right by me. Yet another item that should have been discussed in the public square is buried under the massive glob of corruption spewing from every state and the District of Columbia.

Eris is right, the Muslim fundamentalists have never wanted infidels on Saudi soil, home to Islam's holiest sites of Mecca and Medina. Iran touts its fleet of drones, the US has downed some and Iran has shot down at least one US one. Only about 200 miles separates Saudi Arabia from Iran across the Persian Gulf and those 200 miles of waters contain tankers from Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Iran...we have more allies than the Saudis in that region and many of our allies around the world get their oil from that region. Any US president would protect Saudis oil fields and keep the Gulf open.

Dying in the polls, every day another gaffe, every day another cover up, every day another story breaks of corruption and incompetence, so what do you do?

Wag the Dog.

You go to war! You beat the drum, sound the bugle, run up the flag, and send other people's sons and daughters into harm's way so YOU can get re-elected. Protect the most restrictive government on earth, run by one of the cold-blooded, most vicious killers on the planet. I sure as hell won't let MY sons go to die protecting Saudi Arabia and its production of the most polluting substance on the planet: Oil.

4 million people marched yesterday to save the planet and the air we breathe, led by a 16 year old girl from Sweden named Greta Thunberg who looks like she's no more than 12 and speaks with the force and authority of a chaired professor of environmental science from the greatest universities. And she had this to say to CBS about the thug sending our children into harm's way because he fears being defeated for re-election, and then being prosecuted for his crimes:
Why should I waste time talking to him when he, of course, is not going to listen to me?

I can’t say anything that he hasn’t already heard.

Trump will given the options in a briefing over the Iran situation.
Pentagon officials will reportedly present President Donald Trump on Friday with a number of options to attack Iran following a recent attack on a Saudi oil facility which the Trump administration blamed on Iran.

According to The Associated Press Trump, "will be presented with a list of potential airstrike targets inside Iran, among other possible responses, and he will be warned that military action against the Islamic Republic could escalate into war."

"The U.S. response could involve military, political, and economic actions," AP reported, "and the military options could range from no action at all to airstrikes or less visible moves such as cyberattacks."

The New York Times said Thursday that Defense Secretary Mark T. Esper and chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Joseph F. Dunford Jr. will present the potential military options and potential targets to Trump. "The Pentagon is advocating military strikes that one senior official described as at the lower end of options," the Times reported, but he'll also see "other options that are stronger, options that would require dispatching more forces to the Persian Gulf region."

The president further increased tensions on Friday by announcing new sanctions targeting Iran. The president announced them during an Oval Office meeting with Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison. Trump called the penalties, which hit Iran's national bank, the "highest sanctions ever imposed on a country."

Iran's foreign minister, Javad Zarif, has warned against the U.S. pursuing military conflict.

In interview that aired Thursday with CNN, Zarif said: "We don't want war. We don't want to engage in a military confrontation. But we won't blink to defend our territory."

"We believe that we do not need war in this region," Zarif added. "We believe that we need dialogue, we need cooperation, we need confidence-building in this region."

In tweets this week, Zarif suggested the attack on the Saudi oil facility was carried out by Houthi rebels as retaliation for the brutal war the U.S -backed Saudi coalition has waged in Yemen. Zarif also took aim at Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's assertion that the White House is striving for a "peaceful resolution."

"Having failed at 'max pressure', @SecPompeo's turning to 'max deceit,'" Zarif wrote.

Regarding the conflict in Yemen, he wrote, "Ending the war=only solution for all."

Trump for his part, has publicly given conflicting messages regarding his preferred route of engagement with Iran following this latest series of events.

In a tweet on Sunday, Trump suggested Iran was responsible for the oil attack that it the U.S. was "locked and loaded" to respond. On Wednesay, Trump announced the forthcoming sanctions and said: "There are many options. There's the ultimate option."

Following the president's "locked and loaded" comments, National Iranian American Council president Jamal Abdi warned that if "Trump fails to heed his anti-interventionist instincts and listens to the warmongers surrounding him, the U.S. risks triggering a regional war more catastrophic than the 2003 invasion of Iraq. Cooler heads must prevail and invest seriously in de-escalatory measures to stabilize the whole region."

Should Trump pick the path of war, he needs to go to Congress first, as Rep. Barbara Lee (D-Calif.) stressed Sunday.

I hope they did well in working up the comic books for him.

France, Britain and Germany said it is clear Iran was responsible for an attack on Saudi oil facilities on September 14 and called on Tehran to agree to negotiations on its nuclear and missile programmes and regional security issues.

This isn't going to help things, I fear. Nice to not rely solely on the bullshit falling from the White House, but...

No doubt Trump has shared all the intelligence data with the UK, France and Germany that showed the missals came from northeast so very likely Iran. Another Middle East conflict but this time it's not Arab vs Israeli. Israel supports the Saudis over Iran.

When it comes to oil wars, I have learned to be skeptical. Oil industry GOP like to see high oil prices. Wars increase oil prices and generally generate revenue for the wrong industries.

Pompeo, Bolton, and the rest are big, fat liars. I won't believe anything they say about an important situation.
