Washington Post reporter Josh Dawsey tweeted about the instruction Monday, less than 24 hours before Lewandowski is scheduled to be sworn in.
“White House has instructed Corey Lewandowski not to testify about his conversations with POTUS or other White House officials that are not already delineated in Mueller report, per aide familiar with strategy. He testifies tomorrow,” Dawsey tweeted.
The only way that Lewandowski can refuse to answer questions is by taking his Fifth Amendment Rights. When it comes to conversations with the president, however, Lewandowski doesn’t enjoy the same privilege that White House officials have. Lewandowski never worked for the White House, he worked for the campaign.

Aside from that revelation, most of the testimony was unproductive, with Lewandowski lashing out at members of Congress and running interference for the president.
But as former federal prosecutor Renato Mariotti wrote on Twitter, these outbursts — and the fact that Trump sanctioned the way that Lewandowski behaved in the hearing — could be the basis for Democrats to write up articles of impeachment against Trump similar to those drafted against Richard Nixon in 1974:
Nixon faced three articles of impeachment in connection with the Watergate scandal: obstruction of justice, abuse of power, and contempt of Congress. He resigned from office before any of these could be voted on.
It was meant to be the moment when Democrats started to knit a narrative of presidential malfeasance that many of them hope will trigger impeachment.
But it turned into an iconic Trump-era spectacle that served instead to show how the White House and its acolytes have made a mockery of the checks and balances of the Washington system. Party leaders were left to explain why they had not been more nimble in questioning a witness loaded for bear, since everyone knew Lewandowski would show up with the intention of causing havoc.
After hours of frustrating cross-examination that one of their number, Rep. Hank Johnson of Georgia, compared to "a fish being cleaned with a spoon," Democrats were left with a conundrum: how to use televised hearings to tease out damning passages of the Mueller report when Trump and his gang are determined to turn them into a circus.
