I got a deer tag this year so I went to the range today to make sure I had the rifle zeroed. I have a CZ 557 in 30-06. I had some Winchester XP, one box with 150 grain bullets and another box with 180 grain bullets. These have a polymer tip. I had terrible results with both! POI was 6” low at 100 yds, with a big 10” spread. I thought I must have the scope loose in the rings or something.
Just for fun I put 3 rounds of M2 ball in the rifle. Perfect! Then I tried my actual solid copper rounds (non-lead ammo in CA) and that was perfect as well.
Anyone have an idea why the XP ammo was so terrible?

3Was a year old (pre no lead anywhere rule) but I had similar frustrating results last year. I thought it was just me.Marlene wrote:old? stored in humid conditions?

4Shoot the copper. I'm glad it was perfect. That lot of XP might have been fungoo, or like Marlene suggested something may have happened to those rounds.

5My CZ 452 is definitely sensitive to bullet types, with the best results coming from the solid copper bullets- but even with the worst bullets, didn't have that kind of extreme spread. Hitting low isn't abnormal given the different powder, but the spread would definitely make me look to a different brand.

7Yah. Put on the official list of things not to buy. Like the 123gr Hornady bullets for my Grendel that a lot of other folks adore.

8Those are pretty meh through my Grendel as well. I just buy them for the brass and plinkingshinzen wrote: Mon Sep 09, 2019 12:03 pm Yah. Put on the official list of things not to buy. Like the 123gr Hornady bullets for my Grendel that a lot of other folks adore.
