It was a moment of panic for one Las Vegas man after he said the 500 rounds of ammunition he ordered online was delivered to the wrong address.

Thursday evening boxes of bullets sat on Richard Cipollino's coffee table.

"Some friends of mine and I had planned a day of shooting up at the North Decatur shooting range,” said Cipollino. “And with a bunch of people shooting you can easily go through four or 500 rounds of ammunition within an hour or two."

But for several hours Wednesday he had no idea where the 500 rounds of live ammunition were.

“I was very concerned that 500 rounds of ammunition would get in the hands of someone who was not supposed to have it,” he said.

He bought it online, submitting a valid driver's license as required. They were shipped via FedEx.

"I received an email on my phone while I was studying for my final that the ammunition had been dropped off at my door. So, I immediately got up and went to my door and nothing was there,” he said.

He worried that it could have been delivered to a home with kids, a felon or someone with bad intentions.

"With the recent terrible situation that happened October 1st it concerns me,” said Cipollino.

And the same day he was trying track down his package, a College of Southern Nevada student was arrested for having 2,000 rounds of ammunition and a rifle in a parked vehicle at the Henderson campus.

Cippolino called FedEx several times. Finally, he said a dispatcher told him they had no way of contacting the driver who was shown to have the delivered the ammo.

"I found that very questionable because in our age of technology how could you not get ahold of someone? Especially a delivery driver,” he said.

After five stressful hours he said the driver showed up at his door.

He said I apologize it’s my fault. I delivered it to the wrong address,” Cipollino said. "Fortunately, it was delivered to my neighbor."

13 Action News reached out to FedEx to ask about their policy when it comes to delivering sensitive items like ammunition but so far, they have not responded to our request.

"I will never do that again,” he said. “For the extra 10 or 15 dollars it will cost me, I will go to the Sportsman’s Warehouse. Buy it. Secure it. Drive it home and secure it again."

UPS overnight did that with a check I sent to my brother, 23 or more years ago. It was supposed to be signed for, the driver CLAIMED she dropped it at his house, claimed no one was home when he was waiting all day for it. My SIL (now Ex-) actually went to UPS, found the driver and made her DRIVE to the house she left it at. Naturally, it was the wrong house, and there was no other way to find it. Why didn't she get a signature despite my instructions? She didn't "feel like it"! Never used UPS for overnight ever again. Had to cancel the check and wire the money instead.

Welp, when the jobs pay shit with very long shifts, you expect the drivers to care too? They’re busy worrying about how to pay their bills.

The erosion of labor rights and union power hurts customers as much as anyone.

I understand how you feel, and it definitely sounds like you pulled the short straw, with a irresponsible (lazy) driver; but in general I prefer UPS to FedEx. I feel FedEx drivers seem overworked. I once waited all day for something I was expecting, our driver pulled in to our driveway at 9:30 pm, when
I asked why so late, he told me he had 257 deliveries that day, and that included loading the truck. He said it wasn't unusual to be making deliveries that late; and this wasn't at any holiday or anything that would normally increase their workload.

It's not UPS generally. We've been in this house 22 years and had the same guy most of them. Danny's usually pretty damn good, and we've been on a first name basis forever. I remember him in late July 1999 all excited. "YT, I was at the Yankees game this Sunday when David Cone pitched the Perfect Game!" Hey, I was pretty vicariously excited too!

Most UPS drivers, at least in this area, take enormous pride in their work, knowing their routes and their customers. If Danny's screwed up 4 times in 22 years, that's a lot.

But it's when you get alternate drivers, who don't usually run the route, that problems occur. And Amazon's TBA is frequently notorious. The other day the driver posted that the package was handed to a person in the house, and signed for...and he/she had left it out in the street next to the mailbox--and had done that with ALL the parcels on the street (in the White and Blue padded plastic envelopes.)
