"Texas State University student leaders have endorsed carrying concealed handguns on campus.

The move makes them the first student body government to back the controversial amendment to Texas law, though university officials said Texas State administration has not taken an official stance on the issue.

After students and faculty shared their views on the issue during a forum the week before, the Associated Student Government at the university voted Monday to endorse legalizing carrying licensed concealed handguns on Texas college campuses."

I can't see this group having much sway at the the state level. We have a half-ass legislative system here that reminds me of a pachinko machine. The big wigs meet every odd year (and which isn't?) so we see all sorts of efforts to push issues about this time of the cycle.

They meet for 140 days, many are used to debate "The Catfish County of Texas" or to congratulate someone on their 87th birthday. A bill needs a sponsor to file it. It can be assigned to a committee. It can be ignored until the clock runs out. Someone can notice it and make some comments. It bounces here and there and you can't be for sure if it will pass until the Game is Over and tallies are counted. 1000's of bills don't get anywhere.

Its a wait and see thing.

TSRA got pretty far in the lobbying effort last ledge, but the GOP got distracted by wanting to screw Latinos out of the vote instead of passing this reform into law.

I wish the TSRA better luck this time around with passing campus carry, though for me the "parking lot" bill is more important since that impacts me directly while campus carry does not since I no longer work for a state university (ironically when I did, the campus police said they didn't care if we kept firearms in our vehicles on campus, just don't carry them in buildings). Now that I work for a local gov't, regulations DO prohibit me from parking my car on county property if I my car has firearms inside it. The parking lot bill would overrule this local regulation, I think.
