Lawsuit: Student suspended because of photo with firearm

A former student at First Coast Technical College has filed a lawsuit in federal court alleging that the college violated her constitutional rights when she was suspended based on a post on social media.

Two days after the photograph was posted, Dallas was confronted on the college’s St. Augustine campus by the assistant principal and informed that she was being suspended indefinitely for appearing in a picture holding a firearm.

During the suspension meeting, the assistant principal said that in the posted picture, Dallas had a “mean look” on her face, was possessing “illegal guns” and stated that “things you do in the dark come in to the light,” according to the complaint.

Wow, I think she looks sexy, the guy just looks like he is squinting because the suns in his eyes. I hope she wins big.

I dunno - I certainly respect her right to be in photos with guns. The college is clearly in the wrong.

I don't really like having photos of people pointing guns at the camera. It is not a good example to others. Not trying to be judgmental. But it IS one of the 4 little rules.

And yes, she is squinting from the sun; not a "mean look".

I certainly don't see how the college has any right to change her status because of this picture.

From the pics I do not see fingers on any triggers, also cameras on tripods with a timer set have been used for these types of photos for years in gun mags.

The ACLU should jump on this case but of course they wont. This case should appear to a casual observer as a lilly white administrator being frightened by armed black people.

I agree and with the hysteria around school shootings it just feeds into it. Pointing at a camera makes some people think the person is a gang banger, it's intimidating. Her boyfriend points his pistol down which is the way it should be. Don't know what student rules the school is citing, but it will be sorted out in court.
