13 FEET penetration into gel.
Although the results are noted as unofficial, DSG Inc and Edwin Sarkissian have just posted a video of what they are calling a World Record Gel Penetration Test. Using DSG’s specially designed bullets that are designed to supercavitate, the below video shows a 7.62×51 projectile passing through 13 feet of clear ballistic gel before hitting a watermelon. As a comparison, a “standard” round was fired into the gel demonstrating a devastating temporary cavity.

I'm confused. Is the super cavitator the first round fired in the gel?

Why would you need something capable of that?
Or even WANT it....
Walls and barricades.
The conventional wisdom of "Be sure of your target" would seem to preclude that, no?
Well I don't see how it works with hunting. I sure wouldn't want to use it for self defense either.
But if you were attacking a fortified target - yes.
One doesn't want to shoot through animals or human perps.

The projectile can't supercavitate its way through solid object, it can only do it in liquids. A gel block is basically a very dense liquid. Against solid objects it would have better penetration, but not much better than a standard armor piercing bullet.

The revolutionary use would be under water, it would go insanely farther than regular bullets without requiring a special rifle. I can totally see this as part of the arsenal for frogmen and NAVY SEAL operators.
Glad that federal government is boring again.
