FIRST LOOK – RUGER’S NEW AMERICAN RANCH RIFLE IN 350 LEGEND

So I love bolt rifles. Not really match style but a true bolt gun for hunting. Had a Ruger .270 before. Sold it.
This one seems very promising with the new cartridge.
My only bolt gun is currently a .25-06. A little light on grain. Thought about a .300 win magnum.
Anyone here has one I'd love a review.

Very cool. I love shooting bolt guns, too. Ranch rifles are very popular. I hope it turns out to be nice. I wish the GOP had kept promises and allowed us easy access to suppressors.

Lately when I see these new rifles in new calibers that niche their way between existing cartridges (.35 Whelen and .35 Remington), I can't help but think about the tail fin wars on cars in the 1950's. Sort of invents a reason to get a new car beyond "the ashtrays are full". Or "let's make the AR-15 and an M1 Carbine have sex and see what happens while a 10/22 watches." Let 1000 flowers bloom, I guess. I'll look at one when it arrives at the LGS, but it's not likely I'll get one.

Seems as though the reviewers on that article didn't approve. And it's made for flat country hunting in like Iowa

Unless you are using the AR platform and/or hunting in a "straight wall" state, many of these guns are headscratchers.

If you fall into both catagories above, then this cartridge will likely itch a scratch.

I have an American in 243. Very nice rifle but truly the ugliest rifle in the world. The stock reeks of cheapness and the metal finish appears to be sprayed on rustoleum.

I've looked into the 450 version and it intrigues me, but I feel it should have a rim for head spacing. By the way the reason I have the 243 is because my wife won it in a drawing.

I just saw the 450 version for $349 online. I was looking for a bolt gun in 223 and/or 7.62x39 in case of AWB. Are those just not available for under $400?

If you are looking for a bolt gun to possibly fulfill a tactical need then I'm guessing the 762x39 would fill the bill. The 223 was not designed to take the Mini14 mags for some reason.

As to cost perhaps many of the buyers are looking at it the same as you so the 223 and 762 are the most popular and less likely to be sold as cheaply.

For some reason bolt guns in 7.62x39 are tough to aquire in this country. The CZ527 is a bit spendier than $400 but you won’t regret it once you see what it can do with really cheap ammo.

Questions for y'all on the 350:

1) Could I use my Lee Pro 1000 progressive press to load these? I was thinking I could put a crimp die on my other press and just crimp after the third stage.

2) Could I use 357 components in a 350 case and rifle? Obviously, I would not load them to 350 levels, but it seems like you could put standard 357 loads in 350 brass. Probably using 357 maximum loads as a guide.

Pretty sure you can load 350 on your press, but you really need to read the directions and learn how a seat/crimp die works AND I’m pretty sure 350 head spaces on the mouth and should only be lightly taper crimped.
