I heard on the news they were closing the canyon because too many tourist. We see that when the Blue bonnets have a good years down in the Hill country around Austin. The people just won't look from the roadside, they have to out and trample down the wildflowers to get the pictures of the family in the flowers.

I can see by those pictures what a problem tourists can be. In Mn we have some spectacular explosions of certain flowers in the spring but they are not so accessible to the public because they are in forested areas. I've never seen the desert blooms but in pictures, how long will it last?

It could last into April, but we're expecting more rain and that just prolongs it. Talked with a friend yesterday in the Elsinore area and he said it's just crazy down there, the city might have to close Walker Canyon again. There are a few desert areas in bloom right now.

Still early for our bloom up in the North Bay, although the mustard flowers in the Vineyards are going strong. We don't get anything like the desert blooms though. I'd love to see them someday. Add to the traffic jam, ya know?

When I was growing up in the Bay Area there was wild mustard growing everyplace and it always set off my allergies. I even have some in my front yard now I have to pull. The CA Poppy is drought resistant and self seeding so it just keeps going and going year after year. In regular rainfall years, the Antelope Valley is a good place to see the desert in bloom along with Borrego Springs.
