Pocket Knives

I'm thinking of using some gun fund to buy a nice pocket knife. I'd like it to have all of following features, but I know I might not get all of them:

1) Locking blade -- ever have a blade fold back on you? Not again, thanks.
2) Open one handed -- not opposed to adding a thumb stud
3) NOT an operator knife -- something you would find in your grandfather's cigar box
4) Blade length of at least 3" -- more is better
5) Feel good in hand and pocket -- otherwise, what's the point
6) Quality - doesn't have to be expensive, but nice (say $70-$250)
7) Pretty -- Sorry, I'm not carrying another ugly blade

I have been looking at knives by Case and Great Eastern Cutlery/GEC/Tidioute. Let me know if there are other brands I should be looking at. I haven't seen any Buck knives that seem to meet my requirements for #5, 6 and 7 above for instance.

Here are some pics of knives I'm considering. Edit -- Down to these three...

I was shocked to see that Spyderco models have gone from $30-$35 to over $70!

My go-to isn't pretty but it is practical, a Leatherman Skeletool. The blade opens one-handed and locks, is 2 3/8", and the whole thing, like most Leatherman knives, opens to become a full-sized needle-nose pliers, with an integrated flat 4-size screwdriver (2 slotted, two phillips), a belt clip and combo carabiner /bottle opener. Thinner and lighter than most Leathermans and, you don't need to open the pliers to get to the blade.

Alternatively a Beretta Air Blade may be what you're' looking for:

Aren’t Leatherman knives banned in California for having more than 8 different attached tools to a knife? :sarcasm: :D

Less "Aliens/Bladerunner" and more "Fist Full of Dollars"

I like Gerber knives. This is the first one I came across on their site that looks somewhat traditional. Strongly recommend a clip rather than a straight up pocket knife. And if you do go with pocket consider the weight as much as the comfort of the grip.

Thanks. I'm a big dude, so having heaving stuff in my pockets doesn't bother me much.

I like Gerber knives, too, but it sounds like you want something more like this:

It's a big, heavy, thick knife, and was the go-to knife throughout the 1970's (Sort of the "Glock" of folding knives then). I have a similar (not as good) 2-bladed knife--I think it's an "Old Timer" One blade is the standard shape, the other a drop-shaped skinning blade. One locks but I forgot which :hmmm:

I really like, also, a classic Rigger's Pick. One flat blade and a locking pick:

Bench made 154 CM. My EDC. Nice knife.

Or, if you are a Francophile, a classic Opinel no. 8 for cutting apples and cheese that smells like the feet of angels.

I used to be a knife guy before I became a gun guy (also). I'll look around for something meeting your specs.

Didn't Robocop kill a guy with something like that?

I did not know that. But I've used it to splice ropes and splice loops into them as well. I'm not the best splicer in the world, and haven't done one in few years, but it's not that hard.

They can make a nasty weapon as they leave a big hole and you can slash with the point from any direction.
Robocop's data spike looked a lot like one.

I saw this at a LGS a year or so ago. It was the most elegant knife I have ever seen. It is by Ken Onion and is referred to as a gentleman's knife.

I picked this up on eBay.
It's blemished so I got it pretty cheap. Around $30 if I remember correctly.
It's a bigger knife. The blade is 3.5 inches with 3 inch cutting edge and overall length of 8 inches and it has a liner lock.

Look up the Victorinox Pro Hunter. Also, cruise over to Bladehq.com...you can plug in all your parameters into their search engine and it’ll spit out tons of options.
