Dodge RAM pickups Recall 882,000 due to steering and or brake loss

1
Fiat Chrysler announced on Tuesday that it would be launching recalls on 882,000 Ram trucks over steering and brake concerns.

The first recall affects 660,000 2013-2017 Ram 2500 and 3500 models because a nut in the vehicle's steering system could become loose and make it impossible for the driver to steer. FCA has received reports of one injury stemming from this issue and eight accidents that are possibly related.

The second recall affects 222,000 2019 Ram 1500 models and their adjustable brake pedal system. If a driver sets the pedal to its rearmost position, the pedal could become detached from the braking system which is obviously very unsafe. This brake pedal recall comes just a month after a separate recall that stems from a potential loss of power steering in 2019 Ram 1500 models.

My dad has a late 90s Dodge diesel, specifically for hauling horses (Back Country Horsemen activities). I drove it once. It was a weird feeling driving up hill at 7,000 feet at 30 mph in 4th gear and being able to accelerate without having to drop to second gear. No shortage of torque compared to my lifetime experience driving 4 cylinder cars. The fuel gauge experience was different, also!

Huh! I thought Ford F150s were the best seller followed by Chevy 1500s :hmmm:

I've not heard good things about Ram's reliability. People I know who have/had them complained about continual problems.
I couldn't get the seat to be comfortable so it was a no-go for me from the start.

Looked it up some report the Chevy first others Ford first. RAM further down the list.

This is from the Detroit Free Press 1/4/2019:
Based on 2018 sales data released by the car makers on Thursday, 2 million U.S. consumers gravitated to three major pickup brands:

909,330 Ford F-Series
585,581 Chevy Silverados
536,980 Ram Trucks

I don’t care about underwhelming American full-sized trucks. But I do care if the big’un roaring up in the rear view mirror will be able to stop when I’m waitin’ at the stop light.

I had just the opposite happen--when I had a Nissan King Cab 4x4 I had a woman smack into me when I was stopped on an entrance ramp in rush hour. She was in a small Japanese car (forgot which one) and even the Nissan would look gigantic from her position. You know what she said?

"I didn't see you!" :see_stars: :see_stars: :see_stars: :see_stars: :see_stars: :see_stars:

How could she have seen anything BUT my truck? (it was before texting, still in the mid-20th century) Luckily, my truck was undamaged.

Yesterday as I was pulling out of a parking space, a small older woman (all by herself) was backing out of a space in her big black shiny Suburban and she was having problems. I headed the opposite direction quickly, obscene vehicles. The only smaller cars on the roads will be imports with high tariffs, looks like US auto makers will only be into trucks and SUVs.

Autos are multinational. Most of the little "imports" are made in the US or Canada or Mexio, with parts from everywhere.

The Ford Taurus is being discontinued along with the Fusion, Focus, Fiesta and C-Max. Chevrolet's Volt along with the Impala and Cruze are being discontinued. Mini vans which are people movers like SUVs will be around though the Mazda5 is history and the VW Touareg is history. The car makers will probably convert some of those plants to making trucks, SUVs or mini vans. But as we know, models don't die they eventually get resurrected.

I remember when I had one of the original Ford Escorts back in the early 1980s, Ford had as it’s advertising about parts from all over the world and assembled here.

That is more true today for all cars.

Dougb That list is very incomplete. Toyota Tundra is assembled in San Antonio, TX. Also here is a list of all the assembly plants for Honda.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of ... bly_plants

As you can see there are may more cars assembled here that is not on the list.

Guilty pleasure: My Silverado, the do-everything vehicle. Even gets 23MPG on the highway. Rather than that idiotic automatic shut-off, instead it has a mode that shuts down half the engine so when it's not under load it runs as a V-4 rather than a V-8. That system actually works! It's like a Suburban with only 2 rows of seat, and a bed instead. We've traveled to NH with it, comfortably--smooth ride. It has adjustable pedals (my better half is 9" shorter than me) heated seats, and a locking covered bed making for 6 1/2' long trunk!. I can plow with it, load a motorcycle on it, tow a trailer, and even carried a yard and a third of sand in it. Chevy even has a semi-AWD mode, which isn't great on dry roads but even in rain works great. Usually I can plow with it, without having to go to full 4WD. Yeah, it's big and wide, and has (ugh!) Onstar, but it works and works well.

I think it's something like: it depends on how they brand their vehicles. Ford sells just a pickup, which has different trims like F-150 up to 6 tire Super Duty monstrosities. Whereas Toyota has the Tundra and Tacoma separately. So the F-150 is not the best selling car in America but in aggregate their trucks are.

Toyota doesn't get a mention? They've been at the top of the list in the past, though it might not be the same study group.
