So many fails with that design by modern standards that I just found the entire concept too funny to keep to myself.

Uh oh... the design of that trap looks like it could be made with a hand saw or Dremel tool an old coat hanger and wire cutters.

I remember reading a story as a kid in, I think it was a hunting magazine, about a guy who was trying to set a bear booby-trap using a revolver and panicked when the bear charged and managed to shoot himself in the stomach a couple of times with his own booby-trap. The bear had dinner.

Yeah, I think this may be one of the stupidest patents, ever, and I expect it's illegal in all 50 states.
