Months ago I was turned on to a channel called Nuance Bro, a man who takes the hot button item dejour and goes into public spaces and asks pretty basic questions about it, and lets us get an idea of how much the average person knows about it and how far they've analyzed it by just continuing to ask questions. He'll occasionally interject facts where they're pertinent, but mostly lets the interviewee lead the conversation with their answers. The results look a little something like this:
He'll often end up at public rallies, and since most public rallies are populated by rather left wing people it can feel like maybe he's attacking the left, but he also finds right wingers and lets them look just as dumb whenever he can, so I think he's successful in trying to be balanced.
Re: Nuance Bro: Letting your average Joe on the street pretend to be a pundit (and make themself look like an idiot)
2I only watched the first 6 minutes (ok, watched more as I typed) but mostly it seems he shows the general public are bad at interviews.
The camera is a definite dynamic in the situation. If he didn't have a mic & camera and spent about 10 - 15 minutes just hanging out and talking to them he'd get much better responses or at least a better idea on how they formed their ideas. But yeah, there are also a lot of people who should spend more time thinking before reaching an opinion.
Also, spend enough time in a crowd and you can find the person who thinks the bad karma of the administration will cause the moon to crash into the earth.
A good interviewer/ pro talker, can make you look good or look like an idiot.
Ok, so I watched it all as I typed. Not bad, but I still have some reservations on instant man on the street interviews. General public is generally bad in an interview.
