supposed to be a full lunar eclipse tonight. the sky here is clear and cold so it should be pretty. around midnight.

Lunar eclipses are always 2 weeks before or 2 weeks after a solar eclipse--it's the geometry of it. The same orbit that puts the moon exactly where the earth is between it and the sun is the same orbit that puts it between us and the sun, either before or after. There was a partial solar eclipse in Asia on Jan 5/6.

Yeah, well, not planning on going there, either...but solar and lunar eclipses are always paired.

sorta looks that way, yes. i can see how this would have frightened people before we had science to explain things. one of the few certainties of the dark of night is the full moon, regular as clockwork, and then this. :eek:
