Is there an age to stop driving?

On Thursday the media reported that Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, the Queens husband was involved in an auto accident near their estate at Sandringham, Northfolkshire which is north of London. Prince Philip was driving a Land Rover and the vehicle ended up on its side, the Prince was not hurt (cleared by a physician) but was shaken. Norfolk Police are investigating. Two women in other vehicles had slight injuries, were treated and released. Prince Philip is 97 years of age, four months shy of his 98th birthday.

Now the tabloids are out attacking with pictures of Prince Philip driving a new Freelander SUV on the Sandringham Estate. The Prince did stop flying in his fifties but has continued to drive. In 2016 the Duke drove the Queen and the visiting Obamas around the Windsor Castle estate.

Not sure there is a specific time for we are all different. I expect my Daughter(s) will eventually take my car keys and my guns. Not sure I'll be the one making those decisions - would like to think so, but I've been down that road with others - hard to give them up.

My next door neighbor gave up driving just before her 98th birthday.

My mom gave up driving when she got confused taking her little dog home from the dog park.
My MIL gave up driving when she sat down in her car at her favorite BK's and couldn't remember for several minutes how to drive.

I gave up driving, (and putting) before I even started, after working for a few weeks as a caddy! :roflmao:

Had a conversation with my dad a number of years before the time came. Asked him to identify some things that would suggest it was time he stopped driving. He was still pretty sharp at the time. We agreed on those things and when the time came, and he was doing those things we had the conversation again. At first he disagreed, denied his driving was unsafe, etc. but then he recalled that previous discussion. It was still hard, but was easier for him knowing that he had a roll in deciding.
