Moving to Kansas City area

halfway done with the process. I am looking for tips from locals such as decent ranges, hell holes to avoid, same goes for gun stores. Any quirky laws? Right now I'll be setling on the Kansas side, Overland Park to be presice
Thanks for any advice.

They may have fixed the problem by now, but when my son lived there, the highways got really slippery when wet. Watch it.
They have some fine eating places, some good beer, and a great zoo. Lots of history if you look.

My grad school housemate was from, if I remember correctly, Overland Park. Supposed to be a nice area...and Kansas just elected a Democratic Governor, so maybe some of the Sam Brownback destructive disastrous policies can be reversed.

Had a work colleague who grew up in Olathe, she also lived in Lawrence (KU). She loved the history and was a big Harry Truman fan. Two big cities, KC, KS and KC, MO. A big weather change though from the Bay Area, but don't know where you grew up.

By the way the CZ USA headquarters is in KC,KS.

today put in an application for a spacious one bedrom appartment in KCK. I hope I get it.

Ytarheel - it is a nice area if the absense of liter and winos plus the presence of people who maintain their small but huge priced bungalows --yep. But that's not where I applied to.

It is within the KCK city limits. It is within in a large, well maintained complex. Not a ghetto by any means. It lies within comfortable walking distance of shopping. The unit I will get is about to be re-done. Fresh paint, gut and remake the kitchen (it is now a worthless mess), on-site laundry.

I am leary of the politics here..but as pointed out a Demcrat was just elected Governor so maybe there is hope that the bedsheet and pointy hat people are on the decline...we'll see.

I'm looking foreward to this!

Yeah, you definitely have some good Q to enjoy at this point, and housing prices are a far cry from the bay area. Good luck man! Now maybe we can get that Kansas/MO chapter really hopping! Not too far of a jump for you to cross state lines and hang out with the folks over there.

...and in about 30 minutes it's either going to be a really happy place, or a really sad one!
Pats lead 17 - 14 in the 4th with 9:33 to go, but the Chiefs just forced NE to give up the ball on downs. Pats only score this half is the FG.

Yep. Some good restaurants on both sides of the line though. A couple of my favorites:

Get some burnt ends for me. I have fond memories of the food in the KC area.

I lived in Overland Park for a decade. There was never anyone in pointy hats. My neighbors on one side were from Australia and on the other side a mixed couple with the guy from India. There are lots of people from all over the US too. Rather diverse actually.

There are dangerous places like any city. Most of the suburbs on either side aren't. You can play around with crime reports to figure out the bad areas and times. North KC,MO at night probably isn't a good idea unless you're in the safe pockets around shopping and nightlife. https://www.crimereports.com/city/Kansa ... e_id=false

Both states now have constitutional carry.

I worked on the Kansas side and my wife on the MO side. The roads are better cared for on the Kansas side. Nobody sends their kids to the KC, MO schools, so most people move outside of that part of the city if they have kids and can't afford to send their kids to private school. When I lived in the area that district was run by the courts and the graduation rate was ~50%. The FBI arrested several school board members and some of the city officials for corruption.

The metro area is low density like most of the cities in this part of the country so you have to drive everywhere since things are very spread out.

Try Joe's Barbecue in the Roeland Park area of KC, KS.
