We sure could use more of this type of endeavor nowadays.

The word however is "Pliotron", not pilotron.

I've seen where several individuals making one-off tubes have success, the money shot will be glass tubes in the 500W plate dissipation class.

Looks like there was a Pilot Tube Company, though I thought the gent said he was recreating a tube that wasn't marketed. Dunno.

Langmuir coined the term 'Pliotron", and it was licensed to GE.

A much improved tube over the original Audion.

The tube? Evolved right away.

The name? Lived on in GE industrial tubes till the end of production in the 90's.
