Nextdoor.com?

Is anyone here on Nextdoor.com? I like the idea of neighborhood specific siloed and closed discussions. I’m mildly interested in checking it out, but some of the reviews citing racism, pettiness, and cyberbullying concern me. Are these concerns overblown? It would be nice (I think) to see more of what’s going on in the hood, but not if it’s dominated by crazy cat ladies freaking over spotting a coyote. Has your experience been good or bad? Comments?

Overall it's good. We mostly buy event tickets from people so we don't have to drive around too much. We expand our neighborhood group to 4 surrounding neighborhoods when we buy/sell.

Like any forum, I just stay out of anything I don't want to be part of and block those that are overly obnoxious. People in my state are generally nice people. The worst we get are people taking pictures of kids speeding through the neighborhood and posting them so their parents will handle it. That's nicer then calling the police on them.

I haven't seen much petty bickering like I've seen on facebook. Probably because everyone on the group basically knows where you live.

I agree with inomaha. Like any group you have those that know it all and loves to be the curmudgeon. But overall it is nice and you can keep up with what’s happening in your area.

I also use it. There is seldom anything that interests me, but it does help with creating a bit of connectedness.

I was on it in a previous Neighborhood I lived in.
Mostly buying and selling stuff to each-other, crime in the area and some fair weather politics.

Mostly they sat around complaining that a Walmart was moving in, it went on for 6 months while they sat on their collective butts doing nothing but whining.
In Madison they told Walmart to take a hike, Walmart took it to court...and lost!
I was in Monona, they did nothing for 6-8 months, didn't utilize the power of reaching people and organizing on that Forum, and Walmart just moved right in.
They also sat around moaning that they left their expensive belonging in their vehicles, iPhoines, purses, wallets and packages - then couldn't seem to understand why their things were stolen.
Several coyotes in the area seen, so they wanted to leave food out for it...bad idea, better round up your small pets and keep an eye on small children, coyotes are predators and carry rabies.
Maybe your Nextdoor.com neighborhood has some folks with more common sense in it than mine did.

Sounds about the same as my Nextdoor it cover multiple neighborhoods. One in particular complains about want to keep the area rural don’t let developers in. But then complain about driving 5 miles to a grocery store. Then they want a HEB grocery store. There are those that also complain about wild life around them when living next ranches. Some people just can’t be satisfied.

I've been on Nextdoor (and still am) for a couple of neighborhoods now. Buying and selling is definitely useful, sometimes crime info is, but there is certainly some pettiness to be had as well, some people get fixated on the strangest things. But it is verified local folks, and does provide a useful platform for neighbors.

Facebook is the new MySpace
LinkedIn is the new Facebook
Social Media is narcissistic

I go to the Grocery Store, and there in one of the isles are two middle-ages women with shopping carts sideways effectively blocking the isle
while they show each-other photos on their smartphones, one exclaims "oh look the baby spit up on the cat, I'm going to post picts on FB and Twitter about it". :sarcasm:

Recently I got an "invitation" to join LinkedIn from someone I know, I declined. Reading about them I found that LinkedIn has a history of getting into your e-mail contacts and sending out invitations to join under your name. They make money by selling your information so the more people the more money.
