The department announced on Twitter that Guyger was "terminated for her actions" by Chief U. Renee Hall during a hearing Monday morning.
Like Bisbee, I believe she was really terminated for making the national news.

Mr. Jean was terminated. The officer was merely fired from her job.

It's normal terminology for HR - Guyger's employment with Dallas PD was terminated/she was terminated from her position. Arnolt and his "Terminator" movies corrupted the word.

I didn't know HR Giger was employed by Dallas PD. They must have some creepy uniforms now.

You guys are right about the accepted terminology. I simply choose not to accept it. It's a propaganda technique that makes being fired seem worse than someone dying, or at least paints them as being 'similar enough for government work'.

A steamy chat distracted an officer when she entered the wrong apartment and killed a man, prosecutors say
During opening statements Monday in Guyger’s murder trial, prosecutors offered a reason: She was distracted by the sexually explicit conversation she had been having with her partner on the police force, Martin Rivera.
They had been in an intimate relationship for the past year, prosecutors say, and spent hours swapping messages about being “super horny” and wanting to meet later that night. After a 16-minute phone call with Rivera, Guyger was so consumed that she didn’t process the “repeatedly obvious signs” that something wasn’t right, Assistant Dallas County District Attorney Jason Hermus told jurors.
“All of these things that she’s aware of, she just doesn’t let them get here,” he said, gesturing toward his head. “And that failure cost Bo his life.”

...was arrested on a manslaughter charge days after the fatal encounter and fired from the police department, where she had worked for five years. A grand jury later indicted the now-31-year-old on a murder charge.
We'll see if the jury convicts her of murder or manslaughter.

I've been sexually upset many times when coming home to my apartments, but DUE TO THE FACT THEY HAVE A FRIGGING APARTMENT NUMBER ON door, no matter how frustrated or drunk, I always found mine - and yes, they all looked the same, EXCEPT for the NUMBER on DOOR! This whole thing stinks. I'd convict, but then I'm a jerk.

I live in high rises and I have gotten off the elevator on the wrong floor and really only found out it was the wrong place when my key did not fit, THEN the door number tells me why. This has probably happened a couple of times in the last 5 years. Usually because I was just not paying attention to the floor number when the elevator stops.
While it is far from an excuse or a reason, the fact that the victim's door was unlocked is actually why he got shot. If her key had not worked, at some point, the door number would have told her what was what.
I don't think her "police officer" defense is going to do much good in this case. It is not 100% clear to me she should be convicted of murder, but manslaughter is a no brainer.

Yup, there will be sentencing and she'll appeal. The initial charge was manslaughter, then changed to murder, we don't know what was in the judge's instructions to the jury if they had the option of manslaughter.

They had the option for manslaughter and negligent homicide. The entire trial is on YouTube.
The judge also said the jury could consider the Castle Doctrine.

Yes 10 years, don't know in Texas with good behavior and time served how long a sentence she will serve.
Prosecutors had asked jurors to sentence Guyger to at least 28 years — symbolic because Jean would have turned 28 last Sunday. In a dramatic victim's impact statement, Jean's brother, Brandt Jean, forgave Guyger and embraced her in court.
Addressing Guyger directly, he said, "If you truly are sorry — I know I can speak for myself — I forgive you, and I know if you go to God and ask him, he will forgive you." Brandt Jean, who acknowledged that he was not speaking for his family, added: "I personally want the best for you. I wasn't even going to say this before my family, but I don't even want you to go to jail. I want the best for you, because I know that's exactly what Botham would want you to do — to give your life to Christ."
Brandt Jean then asked permission to hug Guyger, which was granted. He walked over to Guyger and embraced her for almost a full minute as loud sobs rang through the courtroom.
The jury was allowed to consider whether Jean's death was the result of "sudden passion," which meant Guyger acted in the heat of the moment. It carried a lesser sentence of two to 20 years behind bars.

Had the races been reversed do you think she would have gotten the same sentence?
But 10 years is still a very, very long time.

10 years seems about right. You can't walk into someone else's house and shoot them dead, even accidentally, and not expect some ass time in a cell. As a cop, her powers of observation seem to be questionable if she didn't pick up on the subtle cues of it being the wrong floor, wrong doormat, etc.

According to this:

She could serve as low as 5 and a bit. I don’t think that’s enough.

Well, it seems the victim's brother forgave her and hugged her after the sentencing. I'll assume he has more access to the evidence than we do and would not be so inclined if intent were obvious. It would be unjust to ruin someone's life over utterly gross negligence, just as it would be to not sentence someone who was guilty of intent. Glad I wan't in that jury box.

The judge in the murder trial of Amber Guyger, the former Dallas police officer sentenced to 10 years for fatally shooting her neighbor, caused a stir Wednesday when she hugged the convicted killer after the sentencing.
While some praised the move as a demonstration of religious faith, others -- including former ESPN anchor Jemele Hill -- criticized the judge's action as "unacceptable."
Following Wednesday's sentencing, Judge Tammy Kemp comforted Jean's family, then briefly spoke with Guyger and left the room. The judge soon returned with a Bible, WFAA-TV of Dallas reported. “You just need a tiny mustard seed of faith. You start with this,” she said, giving the Bible to Guyger.
Kemp and Guyger then embraced. The hug came after the brother of murder victim Botham Jean made a similar gesture toward Guyger. “You haven’t done so much that you can’t be forgiven,” the judge told Guyger, according to WFAA. “You did something bad in one moment in time. What you do now matters."
Protesters and some on social media decried both the sentencing and Kemp’s embrace of Guyger. “[T]his judge choosing to hug this woman is unacceptable," Atlantic columnist Jemele Hill wrote on Twitter. “Keep in mind this convicted murderer is the same one who laughed about Martin Luther King Jr’s assassination, and killing ppl on sight.”
