It is a 1850's era St. Louis "Plains" rifle.
.50 caliber , 33 inch barrel.
Brass inlays , two gold bands near the breech.
It is marked "St. Louis on the left barrel flat and the has the name "Seiferth" along with the "Christian" fish symbol and series of dots on the bottom barrel flat.
Walnut stock.
It shoots pretty good ... still working on a good load for this old rifle.

8With the back action lock popular with target shooters and all of the fancy brass furniture I'm guessing it was originally the rifle of an affluent sportsman. Glad to read that you are shooting it.

9Thanks for the compliments!
As for cost .... I traded a original "Ohio" rifle for it.
It does indeed appear to be a "Upper Shelf" Sporting Rifle of the period.
I did do some restoration ... did a wood repair near the lock , made a front sight for the missing original ... glass bedded the stock since this rifle is to be a shooter.
