Reading an article about magazines publishing print & web content which mentioned the magazine Pacific Standard. Reading it lead me to this article.

But in one of the largest studies of gun carrying behavior in the U.S. to date, researchers have found that historically low numbers of adolescents are carrying weapons today. Rates of handgun carrying among white Americans, however, are rising.
Found it interesting, not sure what to make of it, didn't find any overt "Gunz R Bad" statements but it isn't very in depth either.

Teens carrying guns? At least in Texas you have to be 21 to get a license to carry a handgun. And there are Federal laws of the same limiting the purchase of handguns. Buying rifles possible by teens, but who besides the trilby guy carries long guns in public. I think 18 on long guns.

It's hard to remember to bring your piece when you're busy Snapchatting or playing Candy Crush...

I think the sample is of illegal gun carry.

No doubt, and no doubt it's no longer as fashionable as it was to carry, at least among some social groups.

Social media may actually be playing a bigger part than we give it credit. Now, the teens are seeing the aftermath of shootings, the loss on families.

Nice way to start off an article by laying out a misleading stat "Firearm homicide rates are nearly 20 times higher in the United States than other high-income countries" (the link provided conflates all gun deaths and NOT simply homicide).
Aside that, I think the article might as well have been renamed "men find it harder to get pregnant". By law people under twenty one cannot buy a handgun from an FFL, and it's been like that since 1968! True, some teens can still get handguns through private purchase or inheritance if they're at least 18. Or I guess if by "carrying", the poll writers also included "carrying at the range or an IDPA match". But the article is specifies that it's profiling teens from twelve (not quite a teen yet) to 17 year olds. Thus anybody submitting answers is probably volunteering that they're doing something illegal (or attending lots of IDPA matches). It's going to be very small slices of the population either way, so it doesn't quite bother me that the segment of 12-17 year olds are carrying less than ever. I would think that would be a GOOD thing since it means more teens are obeying the law!
Now, if they only had a different article with stats that help showed how the next generation are participating either more into shooting sports, or doing it far less. That would be much more interesting to learn.

That is my perspective on the article as well. No mention anywhere that the 12-17 year olds if carrying in public would have been engaged in illegal activity. No mention of why and where. At the range in the company of an adult or alone in the streets is a big difference.

Schools have cracked down so hard on possession of illegal items that kids no longer bring them to school to keep in their locker. At least the smart kids. It makes sense in the same way fewer teens are carrying knives to school, like I did when I went. Or aspirin.
Now the drug dogs make a lap or two around the parking lots to see if there's stuff in the cars.
I wonder if they've corrected their analysis for our recent Junior/Senior High School skeet shooting championships. I think the Nebraska only State Championships are going on now. Most schools around here have larger teams then the basketball or soccer programs.

Another record attendance year with 2,584 participants.
http://www.cornhusker-trap.com/ Somebody needs to make them a decent website.
We might be the only state in the country where you can walk into a high school gym and see a banner for 2016 Boys Basketball Champions next to 2016 Girls Trap Shooting Champions.
