Brazil May Relax Gun Laws

I thought this was interesting:
http://www.npr.org/sections/parallels/2 ... x-gun-laws
I'm not sure how well Brazil is addressing root cause issues of their homicide rate, but one answer seems to be to allow more of the public to arm and defend themselves.
One who disagrees:
"We are not talking about violence that is committed in the rich neighborhoods in the rich part of town," Marques says. "We are talking about crime that is organized crime, almost always related to drug trafficking."
He says more guns will simply mean more black deaths. But instead of trying to address that problem, legislators are intent on further arming the population.

I remember seeing a headline a few months ago....something about Brazil seeking to pattern their gun laws after American gun laws.
Interesting; I've been to Brazil and quickly realized how different they are from the rest of Latin America. Too bad this is about crime instead of liberty.

It was in this thread from November:
Gun ownership restrictions to ease in Brazil
I wonder what they'll do when legally possessed guns do not cure the crime problem.

The NPR story is a lament of Brazil's relaxing of gun laws. The title of their story pretty much gives it away, and it's NPR. It's more apparent in the audio.

I suspect it will get much worse before it gets better, since the Brazilian economy is in super deep doo doo and getting worse by the hour.

I would count on it. It would be interesting to see what short term effect it has but regardless, it's not the right focus in my opinion if they really want to reduce crime and homicides; Poverty is the issue, drug policy is the issue... and gun rights should be a matter of expansion of liberty.
