Title 18 United States Code Sections 3056 and 1752 provides the Secret Service authority to preclude firearms from entering sites visited by our protectees, including those located in open-carry states. Only authorized law enforcement personnel working in conjunction with the Secret Service for a particular event may carry a firearm inside of the protected site. The Secret Service works closely with our local law enforcement partners in each state to ensure a safe environment for our protectees and the public. Individuals determined to be carrying firearms will not be allowed past a predetermined outer perimeter checkpoint, regardless of whether they possess a ticket to the event.

And that's that.
Well, somebody can file a lawsuit to challenge the constitutionality of this law...

Bloomberg guy's opinion that is a little too late:
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/opin ... story.html
Beneath a photograph of an AR-15 with all the trimmings, an online petition calling for the open carry of firearms at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland in July (and possibly intended as parody) has acquired more than 40,000 signatures. USA Today reported that the petition is "of unknown origin." Because extreme gun culture excels at self-parody, it's dangerous to assume that the petition was written by a gun-control agitator. But the entire document appears designed to produce conflict within the GOP's trembling walls.

Like most states, Ohio doesn't restrict the carry of unconcealed, loaded firearms in public. This didn't much matter in the past, since it was universally understood that openly carrying a firearm in public was both bizarre and menacing behavior guaranteed to attract law enforcement. But as avant garde gun culture has grown increasingly assertive, and increasingly protected by Republican politicians, open carry, like every other kind, has become a cause to rally around.
Ted Cruz, John Kasich and Donald Trump have indeed lamented the existence of gun-free zones. Now they're being called to account. To ensure safety at the convention, the petition states, "you must call upon the RNC to rectify this affront to our Second Amendment freedoms and insist upon a suspension of the Quicken Loans Arena's unconstitutional 'gun-free zone' loophole. Every American is endowed with a God-given Constitutional right to carry a gun wherever and whenever they please."

CBS News story on alleged creator of the petition:
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/surprising- ... -petition/
Jim wouldn't say where he lives, only that he has roots in Philadelphia and works in the public health sector. Jim is a self-described liberal Democrat who intends to vote for Hillary Clinton should she become the Democratic nominee. He isn't affiliated with a campaign or any advocacy group, but did some volunteer work on Barack Obama's 2008 presidential campaign. Jim is no fan of guns and he's "pretty passionate" about his activism, he says.

Jim says he wrote the petition knowing it was somewhat preposterous -- that law enforcement would never allow the Republican presidential candidates inside an arena with potentially thousands of armed individuals. "There were never going to be guns at the convention. Not a million signatures were going to make that happen," Jim said.

But he also knew that if the Republican candidates sincerely meant what they have been saying about expanding Second Amendment rights, it would logically follow that they should support a move to allow firearms at the convention. "If they can't live in accordance with the policies they impose upon us, they owe us that rational conversation," Jim said.

Jim also mused on the logic of why he - the gun control advocate - had to start the petition. "If they believe this so strongly - that gun-free zones are dangerous - why am I the one raising the stink," he remarked. "I think they should take up the cause. It would bring them up on intellectual consistency."
Intellectual consistency is what he is calling out Trump supporters for... I love this guy! :rotfl:
I hereby nominate Phillie Jim court jester of LGC! How does one start a petition for this on Change.org?

Teachable moment? Why not have some member(s) residing in his area invite him out for a range day so he can see, first hand, what the sport is all about?

I think we are indeed owed a sincere, rational conversation.
