I'm going to assume the guy left the mag in his luggage by mistake and wasn't planning to smuggle, hijack, or commit an act of terror.
My range bags are for range use only. And I never take any other luggage I might use for air travel to the gun range. I would hate to get swabbed at security and have the bag show signs of gun shot residue or other suspicious traces.
I do a full bag dump and search at home before air travel anyway. Just in case there's a forgotten blade or other banned item left tucked away in a suitcase pocket. Same for the night before jury duty or visit to a government building with a security checkpoint.
